28 Degrees Card Rejected

I just got knocked back for GE's 28 Degrees card, I'm assuming it is because I already have $12,500 worth of credit over 2 cards. (Always paid off, currently $0 balance) then again I have no idea why I was offered such a high amount from another bank in the first place.

I'm fed up with international transaction fees so if there is no min. income/earnings/salary/wage hopefully reducing my credit limit to something reasonable with the other bank will fix it.

Anyone know if reapplying too quickly is bad for your credit score?

TL;DR Reapply quick = bad? | Min. Income for 28 degrees?

Thanks.

  • Every application goes on your credit file so if you wait a few weeks or a few months, I don't think it will make a difference…a few years should be ok though.
Why don't you order a free copy of your credit rating to see if that's where your problem is? You can do it online with Dunn & Bradstreet here https://www.checkyourcredit.com.au/MyAccount/Order/StandardS… but I heard that they are not as good as Veda's so you can mail in your request here http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/home/free-credit-file.dot

  • Call and ask why.

Or get a copy of your credit file (Free) from http://www.mycreditfile.com.au/home/free-credit-file.dot

There's really no credit score in Australia. Your credit record has what you have applied for and any claims against you. But you might see something there that you forgot to declare or forgot to close, that usually makes lenders freak out.

Or cancel one of your cards and re-apply.

  • or get citibank plus debit card

  • That's what I'm doing, their exchange rate is the best+no international transaction fee+no conversion fee.

I have given my card (don't tell anyone) to my brother overseas, and he withdraw whatever I asked him with absolutely no fee.

Because its a debit card, you can only use your own money though.

  • I'll give them a call and find out.

I never closed my first card as I heard it reflects badly on your score.. ah that seems silly.
    I never use it anyway.

If 28 degrees shows transactions instantly like CommBank not just "Pending with no merchant name" I might as well close all two.

If I "fix" any problems and reapply that doesn't depict me in bad light (credit score wise)?

    • No - it's one of my gripes but it takes a day or two for transactions to show up in the transaction list. you'll see your balance go down and coudl technically work backwards, but unlike a bank account it doenst' show your transactions real time.

      • Yeah, this is my main gripe with this card too. 3-4 days for a transaction at,say, coles or Woolies to show up is a bit retarded. It's a mastercard ffs, it should be instant. However, the reason you get this card is to dodge stupid fees and for that it has no equal :)

    • If I "fix" any problems and reapply that doesn't depict me in bad light (credit score wise)?

I think I'd ask them beforehand, just to be on the safe side. They may have a policy in place whereby if you reapply within a certain timeframe it is automatically rejected.

  • If you don't need the no-fee cash advances, then you could apply for a Bankwest card too. You'll need to qualify for a Platinum card (credit-limit based), but if you do, you can get a card with no annual fees + no international fees + slightly better interest rates + free insurances.

Use that + Citibank debit card for overseas cash withdrawals.

  • I dont like my credit limit to be too high. The bank always offer me "free" upgrade and I always refuse.
My card limit is set at $1500 each, enough for my monthly shopping. I will increase it when I am expecting to pay something big.
Hence the other thing I would do if I were you is to reduce your credit card limit.
