(Pre-Owned) Xbox's from EB Games for $40

230

Was just at my local shopping center browsing through the boxing day sales, and though I don't have any gaming systems i thought this looked like quite a bargain (though it might not be, as i know EB games runs on a pretty good profit).

Basically its a pre-owned Xbox for $40. I asked my local store, and they still had several in stock.

You don't need to buy any games/trade anything, and im not sure how useful an xbox is nowadays (as its an old system), but might be worth it for someone for $40?

Makes a fantastic htpc once you install XBMC on it.

Not if you wanna play HD stuff. :D But for everything else, XBMC is a great media center.

And +ve vote from me - great price!

They're $47 both online and the 3 stores I visited today. Still cheap for anyone wanting one.

    • One in Westfield Doncaster clearly had the systems for $40 (as of 2pm today), might just be an individual store offer or something.

  • They have plenty in Sydney Westfield store

  • There has been no reduction/specials in Pre-owned 360 games.

However there is a pre-owned sale in Jan with 30-40-50% off titles.

  • XBMC on Xbox is the best Media Center hands on! def worth 40 bucks and the effort getting XBMC on the machine

  • Hands on??? Or hands down? :D

Just a note that XBMC won't play HD stuff!

    • It will, but at like 10-20fps (very slow, broken up video).

Or you can 'fiddle around' with it a bit more.

This site has some pretty awesome guides:

      http://xbox-scene.com/xbox-tutorials.php?p=191|298|#298

(even one where you can learn how to make your x box silent!)

      • Yep, out of the box…it won't. Why say it will when it isn't watchable? :D

Oh, I forgot about the CPU/RAM upgrade…or encoding the HD file differently so it will play. But too much mucking around for me.

  • One other limitation I have found it is suffers when trying to play MP4's even SD, one way to fix this is use tversity. I use it with my xbox, xbox360, psp and PS3. It realtime converts everything down to resolution and bitrate the device can handle.

But for $40 buck its a bargain, whack in a 750Gb IDE and a softmod and you have close to 1000 hours of video on tap, kid/wife friendly, safer than them scratching up your dvd collection.

  • Went and bought a Crystal xbox plus DVD remote and Splinter Cell Game (softmod) for $60.45. Ordered an USB cable for $10 from ebay.
Looking to add a 1TB SATA drive WD-GP ($165 requires converter ($25) on umart).
Primarily for the wife friendly factor.
Tempted to get another one to install Mac OS-X (Darwin) just for iphone sdk (for me).
