Staple-Less Stapler for $19.95 Including Shipping

12

My friend's fabric shop started selling staple-less staplers for $19.95 with free Australia wide shipping. These genuine Japanese staplers don't use traditional metal staples, and are safe, cost effective and pretty interesting products. I've got a few myself, I even let my young kids use them.

US Amazon sells them at US $24.50 + shipping.

What's the difference between that and this:
    http://dx.com/p/mini-environmental-protection-stapless-stapl…

ie, what does the extra $15 dollar give us?

I've got one of those. They don't hold the paper very well.

How well does the Japanese stapler perform though?

      • +1

If it's like the one I have from years ago, you have to fold the corner first then punch through and it holds pretty well. But mine is only for like, 3 pieces of paper.

this one's coated in gold and has been in australia for about 20 hours longer than the DX one

    • One cooks your dinner for you, the other one doesn't.

  • Can only attach 8 sheets max..

  • A stapleless Stapler? So it's a ler…?

    • +28

No that would make it an R

  • How do these things work?

    • +24

They yell at the paper and the paper is so scared they stay together

It just punches a hole and folds the paper into it. But as it's been said above, it's only good for a few sheets of paper.

    • If you put 2 pieces of paper together, then cut a V shape in the corner (don't let V touch the edges of your paper … allow a 1/2 cm at lest) then push that V shape through and fold it back.

Except the one's I've seen will sort of make an old keyhole shape and fold it back, which is better 'cos it doesn't unhook easily. (Device will do the folding for you)

My old one was only for 3 pieces of paper and required the corner to be folded first, and then punch through the folded paper.

Bit gimmicky, I'd buy one for a few dollars. Twenty bucks, bugger that.

I supposed this price for a japanese product is ok. Checked ebay and its about $3 cheaper than your price but ships from japan. I'll say this is more of a luxury good in terms of economics. Also, comparing prices to amazon? ebay is better since neither ebay nor amazon gives local shipping. Hence your price is not a deal.

    Look at the below link

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Stapleless-Staple-Free-Stapler-Pa…

Does the same function but is about $17 cheaper.

"cost effective" Please. That's stretching it. Staples are cheap. $15 of staples is a LOT.

Hence to sum up, this is not a deal. If you want a stapleless stapler go with the ebay $2 staplers. More cost effective. Local shipping doesn't mean much since I highly doubt anyone would be in a rush for a stapler.

same brand and model on ebay for $17.42 including postage (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200786815671). not a bargain.

  • Yeah, ebay are selling much cheaper. For a product like this, I don't see why you need to pay a brand premium.

Would you pay a $15 price premium for a Gucci branded staples? No. Same logic applies to this.

you might if they were monogrammed :P

I bought this exact same stapler in China last year for 60 yuan (A$9.18). It's a Japanese brand, manufactured in China, like most stuff.

    • and thats why its more reliable than a chinese brand, manufactured in china, like most stuff?

      • Is an iPad more reliable than a Allwinner tablet? They're both manufactured in china.

        • The iPad may or may not be more reliable, but the good thing about it is Apple will always replace it with a new one if something goes wrong. I replaced my 3rd gen iPad four times because the screen had very minor backlight leaks at the edges, or a barely noticeable pink hue. Try doing that with other brands.

      • Yes, the quality is definitely much better than the cheapies you get from DealExtreme.

$9? That's a sweet price. I quite like the design of this particular stapler but the $20 price tag is putting me off. $9 I might just lay down the cash

  • It's great that these are safe, I stapled my thumb when I was a kid. Phew, could've avoided that one

    • Yeah but did you look at how this work?

You could risk having a hole punctured in your finger and folded.

      • Yeah, and I have enough skin folds as it is. I don't want to chance getting any more!!!
