  • can you get a tv and use it as a monitor? aldi have one about that size at the moment not sure if it has the connection though

    • need to make sure it can do 1:1 pixel mapping (or similar - from memory, also called full scan).
the prob is to find out, its probably easiest to mess around with the menu in the shop.

a lot of cheap brands won't do it.

      • thanks for the info qazwsx :)

  • Aldi has got 24 inch full HD LED TV with DVD for $189. You can use HDMI Cable to use the TV as a monitor. Also there is a 23' samsung monitor going for $129 or so with jbhifi.

If you're willing to stretch to $250, there is a 27" Samsung that sells for exactly that @ OrangeIt.

It's probably one of the cheapest 27" LED monitors you can buy.

It is OK to use a TV as a monitor, but be aware that some cheap brands (like Dick Smith) that you buy do not have per-pixel mapping and might result in blurried or garbled text when connected to a PC. Be sure to check the TV's specification before you buy.

  • There are a few cheap 27 inch from MSY.
    27” 5ms Acer V273HL for $229.
    27” 2ms AOC E2795VH for $239.

The 27 Samsung looks like a good buy too.

Avoid anything over 24" as at this price the resolution on a 27" wont be any higher. My recommendation is a 23" with a resolution of at least 1920 x 1080. Even a 21" is preferable to a 27" with the same pixel density (resolution). I'm using a HP W2371, $174 at Officeworks. Buy from retailers like Officeworks with a good open box return policy.

What was I thinking I don't know why I said the pixel density is the same as resolution. Anyway, go for a smaller monitor as it will have a higher DPI (crisper image) than the same resolution on a larger monitor.

  • The LG IPS234V is one to consider - 23 inch 1080p IPS display. I got mine from MSY a few months ago for about $170.
