The 'voucher' part says it all. Dicounted products != money.

    • It'd be free money if you were in the market for a new ACER system and the voucher could be used anywhere and items on sales.

      • Lot of 'if's. Also you might be out of pocket on the 'send to us' part.

        • Don't you know Australia post has COD service, the receiver pays it when they pick up.

    • The voucher is potentially a prepaid Visa. They're pretty common in cashback promotions.

      • +2

        From the T & C's

        1.8 'Voucher' means an electronic voucher provided by Acer for use when purchasing products on the Acer Store website;

  • Probably only applicable to expensive models in the range. But willing to wait and see.

  • +6

yeah but the downside is you have to buy an acer

    • i've never had any unusual issues with any of my three Acer laptops/netbooks.

      • i've never had any bad experience with their laptops either

however acer isnt at the cutting edge of design and they dont seem to have hit ultrabooks all that well

  • If you had a desktop and started to strip out parts, at what point would it no longer be considered a computer? Minimum of mobo, cpu, PSU?

Also, betcha max 1 voucher can be used towards a new Acer…

    • +9

My guess is they don't really care. It's probably a $120 discount from an inflated RRP on a high end laptop or desktop, and the actual savings, after you have done the search on Staticice and elsewhere will be less than $120.

      • This. They don't want your old computer.

      • Hmm, sell the vouchers on ebay and see what you get?

  • will they be covering the postage costs?

    • -2

You don't pay for post. They'd provide you with a print-out to take to the post office, who will take your computer, pack it up and send it off.

      • A bit of misinformation in my previous post, sorry. In this case you do need to pack it yourself. Nonetheless, you simply then take the printout you'll have received from Acer to the post office. You will not have to pay postage on it.

Australia Post will not accept any item for return that is not packed into a carton.

Not correct, sorry. If you arrange a mail-in repair of an apple product or cancel an Austar contract and need to return the box, you are told to take the product, unpackaged, and the Post Office packs it. I'm sure there would be other products where the same set-up applies.

    • Australia Post will not accept any item for return that is not packed into a carton.

So you can't use a bag for that broken netbook.

  • That's good. I have an old Acer Aspire D255 netbook that's probably worth less than $50 on the market now, so trading it in means getting some moolah back.

    • does it work? im looking for an older acer aspire

    • I got the Acer Aspire One netbook as well…. Just damn I recently installed Win8 on it….wasted one of my licence!

terms say…get 120 voucher - minus your $15 admin fee. the voucher can only be used on the acerstore…so over inflatted RRP.

    • Pity the T and C don't work yet..

      • I think everyone is waiting for the T & C to come out. =P

        • Click register… It has them there….

4.2 The $120 Voucher can be redeemed for any order value of $599 or greater at Acer Store.
4.3 Only one (1) $120 Voucher may be used per order.

      Wrecks the deal for me.

    • I was just about to post exactly the same thing … was reading the T&Cs thinking "this is great, wheres the catch?", as I've got a few I wouldn't mind getting rid of. There it is :/

Sounds like a great 'environment friendly' deal, but in reality, at most its just 17.5% off their overpriced systems online (after jumping through hoops for the discount).

      Boo-urns!

  • +6

so $105 voucher for every computer which can only be redeemed on over-inflated RRPs of $599 or more (1 per use only).

not worth the effort unless you plan to buy from acer at RRP

  • +12

this deal is for the morons

  • +4

No deal. Much more pleasure in sledge-hammering an old CRT than giving it to ACER

    • Nah, Acer would just laugh at you for using Aus Post's price gouging services.

    • Try sending it to them once you're done with it (if they cover shipping that is).

  • Does the old computer have to be an ACER? I have an old HP which I want to get rid of!

  • "Seems not a very good deal with $15 admin fee & only one voucher can use in one transaction……."

    from facebook

  • Hard to do anything with this "offer" - was looking at perhaps a few monitors, but the price difference is ridiculous e.g.

    S240HLbd 24" monitor on ACER site = $299
    S240HLbd 24" monitor at MSY = $149

  • If I was to use this, I would buy a projector…

    http://www.acerstore.com.au/acer/store/index.php/k130-dlp-da…

costs $599 - so it just meets the minimum price and then after the discount is about the same price as what they sell for on Amazon… but you get Australian warranty…

They mentioned on their facebook page that they are removing the $15 fee for the rest of January
    https://www.facebook.com/AcerANZ

"We were thrilled by the overwhelming response to our announcement of the Recycle and Reward program last Thursday. So much so that for the rest of January, we are going to waive the $15 admin fee so it costs you absolutely nothing to send in your old PCs. Head over to www.acerstore.com.au/recycle to start recycling now!"

    and

"There has been a slight delay in getting the back end code updated to remove the $15. It should be done by the end of the day, feel free to check back then and try again. Sorry for any inconvenience."

    • Does this mean you can just post them lots of random junk now?

      • Only certain kinds of random junk, it seems.

    • Just saw that there is no longer any requirement for CC or $15 until end January, though T&C still refer to it. So got myself a sticker. Probably won't buy anything with it but will at least get rid of a broken desktop.

  • +3

Just think of this as a $15 recycling program, now discounted to free. Forget about the worthless voucher.

  • Recycle & Reward Registration Confirmation

Thank you for registering for Recycle and Reward collection. An email will be sent to your registered email address within the next 30 minutes containing Australia Post eParcel return label along with instructions on returning your old computer.

The registration details are as follows:

    …………………..

    However, I got nothing yet.

    • Took half a day before the email arrived.

  • T&C says that

"4.5 The $120 Voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other program, offer or promotion."

So if I use the voucher, I won't be able to claim cashback on supposedly eligible products listed in the link below.

    http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…

Does anyone know if this is for certain or otherwise? Thanks.

  • Just received an e-mail. Register before January 31st and the $15 ADMIN fee will be waived.

  • Good if you want to get rid of your old machine, though personally I just gift it off to whoever needs it more than me.

Basically I put it out on my front lawn and it dissapears within 24 hours. I don't even have to walk to the post office.

  • Goodbye to my old PIII 500!

  • the $120 voucher doesn't matter. I just want say goodbye to my old desktop.
now all sorted! I just posted my old computer to acer

  • Registered Tuesday afternoon, received postage voucher Tuesday evening, received $120 voucher Wednesday afternoon without sending Acer my old PC.

    • Same here, which indicates that they are happy for anybody to take $120 off their web prices, independent of whether they actually send in an old PC.

  • Ill gift the $120 voucher… But atleast i managed to get rid of my broken notebook.

  • T&C shows "The $120 Voucher can be redeemed for any order value of $599 or greater at Acer Store. "

  • so basically a crapload of posts in this thread, but nobody has actually bought anything…

    • can you blame them? you have to like… BUY AN ACER… forget that

  • Acer V5 Touch 431-P775 is $599 on the Acer website and $509 on JB:-

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/ace…

I will probably send the desktop anyway, but the voucher seems useless particularly when they will probably sting you for postage.

  • Looks like the $15 promo ends today,

Im looking at their tablets atm,

The W511 with 3G seems to be listed at $799 when compared to online selling for around $760~+Delivery this promo brings it down to almost $679 for a 3G tablet…

Not too bad of a deal…

THey Also send the voucher with or without the device being shipped back to Acer (Attached in the email I got was the $120 voucher)

  • Just got an email promoting this, again:

    http://www.acerstore.com.au/acer/store/index.php/recycle

Obviously they didn't get enough takers last round so they've extended it to end of April. Still, if you don't mind spam and maybe even a phone call from an Acerstore salescritter, you can get recycle your old computing junk this way.

Or just wait for your council's next e-waste day.

    • Good if you need a new tablet/PC :)

  • I got their easter specials email.

    http://www.acerstore.com.au/acer/store/index.php/eggs-ponent…

Suddenly it doesnt seem too bad if you can take another $120 off.

Not exactly a cracking good bargain though.

    If you want a code:

    RR_9WD4U572

I'm not going to use it.

  • Thinking of participating in this…
Does anyone know if there's any expiry on the $120 credit?

  • I've got a hopeless (build quality and warranty) Acer laptop that's headed for the bin. But there's no way I'm paying money on top to get another hopeless Acer product.

  • Has anyone done it? I'm wondering if I need to pack the junk.

    • I asked AustPost. The reply is I need to supply my own packaging, which is a job and an expense in itself.

Also saw The Good Guys web site advertising free recycling a while ago, but I cannot find the reference now, so I may have been wrong.

    • Yes you need to pack it yourself. I had a spare box and foam peanuts already; I'm a hoarder.

  • voucher valid for three months, so
