Just read an interesting article about price discrimination on SMH. Thought I'd share with OB so we don't get suckered by these tactics!
IMO, Coles and Woolies are notorious for this. I recently came across a Coles store listing that categorised it's stores in to Affluent, Middle and Value. Having two nearby stores that are in the Affluent and Value category, you can see a distinct difference in pricing and quality, particularly in the fresh produce section!
It really lost the plot at the end by making it all about the NBN. This is somewhere that it really does matter. Sure my home connection could be faster, but we are still all competing for the same backbone which, particularly internationally, is limited.
Pricing for speed is just easier than pricing for actual used bandwidth, which is a limited resource.
Otherwise the article was a bit predictable and doesn't add much to what is well known. I would like some more discussion and disclosure over the recent developments in the reward cards world, I see that as a (potentially) a free licence to charge any individual any price.
