    Free for how long?

    • +5

The free hosting is free for life.

      • +1

Includes just 1 mysql database. Not so cool.

    • -7

"The product/service you have chosen requires a domain name so please enter your domain name selection from below."

Basically you can't try it out, you have to commit to use it when you sign up.

      • +4

Why do you need it if you don't have a domain anyway?

      • +5

What the heck? Of course you need a domain name, wtf do you think a hosting server is for?

  • A valid Australian Business Number is required to sign up for this offer. So no personal websites then

    • +3

You need an ABN for a .com.au domain anyway.
This deal has been around for a while, but the data and storage limits are now better than they were.

  • Hey rep, great product! Is this deal for life?

    • +1

You don't pay anything for it, it is free for life.

      • Good offer, I'm surprised you guys are offering support for a free service like this. Nice job.

  • +5

    So what's the catch?

    • +4

Loss leader for other hosting products I would imagine.

    • +1

No catch, but an ABN is required.

    • Well the "catch" (which isn't really a catch) would be you use this service, like it and when you need more data or whatever, you upgrade to their paid-for service.

  • I can't login after getting the confirmation email. https://www.mysau.com.au

    • +1

I think what has happened is that they recently moved from mysau.com.au to Serversaustralia.com.au but none of their emails are updated to the new domain.

Anyways, WHMCS usually goes by default so try logging with the details @

      https://my.serversaustralia.com.au/myaccount

      Hope that helps!

  • +7

What about existing free customers, do they get upgraded?

  • Hey Rep,

If I have a .co domain currently hosted elsewhere already setup with a wordpress install currently on personal hosting, but about to add a shop too allow people to buy items. Is this suitable for this deal and if so, what are the churn over times and how difficult would it be to move having NEVER done that before?

    • Yes it is suitable, however if you're running a shop you're going to need an SSL (to secure it), unfortunately this needs a dedicated ip address which is not included with the free plan.

Changing a domain name generally takes 48 hour for the changes to take effect worldwide, so don't do it in the middle of any marketing campaigns! =) We can provide basic support via e-mail for your migration if needed as well.

      • Strange; the free plan lists SSL with a tick. How's that work?

        • +4

I'd assume they mean it comes with shared SSL, which leverages an SSL cert installed on the host server and which is available to everyone on the server. A dedicated SSL (one which won't cause peoples' browsers to throw up security warnings) requires a dedicated IP address, which this plan doesn't include. However, you'd only need all this if you're actually processing card transactions on your site; If your store uses PayPal for all its processing, you'll be fine without it.

      • Thanks for this information. As stated by @stylecrime below, if my transactions are all done through PAYPAL, can I get away with no dedicated IP and no SSL?

When transferring over, does the entire site, database etc just transfer over, or does that need to be reinstalled again? Sorry for all the questions…

      • That's no longer true, you can use SNI (Server Name Indication) to have multiple SSL certificates on the one IP address. Getting a separate IP just for SSL for a small site is a waste when we're running out of IPv4 addresses.

  • +1

I have an ABN and think this is great.

One question from a noob. Is there a way to use a free domain service to sign up for this deal. The only one I know if is co.nr. Anyone have any other suggestions? Would a DNS subdomain work here (through no ip or dydns or something) or is that something completely different?

    Thanks!

    • so they let you assign full domains to the hosting from outside? not charge for this?

      • Yes, you can use domain names from other registers / providers.

    • Honestly I cannot say about the free domain service as I haven't used it.

  • +2

Can we get some nameservers please?

Can't find then anywhere on the site nor are they on the confirmation emails sent.

    Thanks!

    edit: found here - https://my.serversaustralia.com.au/index.php?/Knowledgebase/…

Very difficult to locate & no direct link to that page at all!

    Primary: ns1.sau.net.au
    Secondary: ns2.sau.net.au

  • I got this offer last year. It is very good and it is still free for me. Comes with cPanel too.

  • +7

    Great company and great offer!
I'm using this free hosting for almost a year and very happy with the service!

Question for Rep - will you upgrade existing users to 1000MB of storage and 10GB of data?

    • +4

would also like to know this

    • +3

I'm not sure about this one, will have to ask management tomorrow.

      • Any update yet?

      • Hi exia, any updates to this? I've sent a web enquiry as well, but no response.

    • +1

Please let there be a upgrade! =P

  • Noob question - I have an existing domain parked with ventraIP (no hosting).

Do I select "I want to transfer my domain to Servers Australia Pty Ltd" or "I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain" in order to get the free hosting and cPanel.

    Cheers

    • +1

The middle one. As you already have a domain name, you can just point it to your new hosting with them.

  • How can i start using this hosting after registered? Does anyone can tell me please? I cannot log in ! Thank you

    • +1

      Hi Kendo,

When we post these offers we get a huge number of signups. To ensure its only one per customer and validate the ABN we approve each manually. These are generally done once a day.

  • Hey Rep, I have several non .com.au domains that I have hosted somewhere else that I want to move. Unfortunately, I don't have ABN number. So what option do I have?

    • Unfortunately this plan is only available for ABN holders. ABNs are free though to Australia residents and you can sign up for one online.

  • +1

Please put "ABN Required" in the title, thanks!

  • +2

If you have 2 or more MySQL databases or no ABN and you just wanted to test for a few months you can visit http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/736399. That's the main place for webhosting companies to brown nose forum regulars.

I've never tried asking for a deal but I guess it doesn't hurt. I'm taking advantage of a deal now. I never received an e-mail confirmation or a single reply to 2 separare questions -but luckily I didn't log out and managed to write down my cpanel access settings from the inbox ;)

From my experience a non-paying customer will always be low/no-priority so you employ the fail-safe method of complaining on a popular forum or of course, Facebook (for a particular brand of mediocre electronics that's the only way you'll get a warranty, {cough} Kogan {cough}…).

  • Any free (or cheap) Windows hosting?

  • pardon the noobness of my following questions:

do i have to pay for registering a new .com name?

i want to make my current wordpress blog to a .com or .com.au with this free service, is it possible?

    • You will need to purchase a domain.

  • I know you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that but could you let us know what DNS records types your DNS hosting allows? Can't find it anywhere on your site.

  • Hi Rep,

My orders are still in pending mode perhaps because I chose Cheque as the payment option..

Can you provision the following two orders when you get a chance please?

    Thanks so much!

    3405717700

    • Yes, most likely! Call them, they'll have it sorted out in no time.

  • Just wondering why this is listed as a bargain as this particular plan has always been $0 and has been available at least the last year or more. Now if that $19.95 plan is listed changed to $0 then it would be a bargain.

If you are thinking about negging this comment. Consider if I put a post saying get your free email at outlook.com.. but thats always been free.. so wheres the bargain.. ?

    • +4

I can give you a list of 20+ free email service providers.

Name me 20+ free cpanel hosting service providers with NO CATCH and I'll agree with your point stated above.

Furthermore, it looks like the free service has had a significant upgrade compared to the past based on multiple requests from previous users and that in itself probably warrants this as a deal.

      • I'd say I know as many free cpanel hosting service providers as free email providers. But I don't know more than 10 free email providers… If you look for free cpanel hosting services, you'll find more than 20 for sure, same as with free email providers. Oh, and none that I know require ABN (sure there would be a few of those, but I don't have an ABN, so never tried).

      • +3

The thing is this deal involves a catch.. and that catch is "requires an ABN". Yes an ABN is free to be had. However, it is for those who are elegible.

        http://help.abr.gov.au/BC/Index/Australian_business_number_(ABN)/Is_the_entity_entitled_to_an_ABN_/

Here are some plans with a slight catch that could justifiably post their free bargains on this site. There a ton of US based ones.

you should add this to the ozbargain wiki :)

        • thanks for the list. But I couldn't find anyone offering better deal unless you are student or non-profit.

    • +1

Its free dude, what do you expect, do you want them to pay you for hosting with them?

  • +1

what's this EPP code I need?
Never had this problem before, just change NS and I could use it in new host.
Now must call up the domain registrar to find out what code it is?

    • +1

i think epp code is used only if you need to transfer your domain
are they forcing you to transfer your domain to theirs?

      • +1

Correct, EPP codes are only needed when transferring a domain between registrars.

  • +1

There's other companies that do free hosting for ABN holders.. nothing new..

Servers Australia and Crucial Paradigm come to mind.

    • Agreed and good on them both for giving something for free.

    • I thought this was a Servers Australia deal….. I am tempted to give this a go but my current hosting with bluehost is up got renewal and my dir has more than the free storage amount. Maybe it is time to build a site as a side project

  • +2

Thanks for the plain-text password in my email.
Seriously guys, you need to hash your passwords. As a web host you should care about security.

  • I use their free service for my company. Good deal.

    • whats the link?

  • Total Due Today: $0.00AUD
    Total Recurring: $23.00AUD Biennially

What is the recurring fee for? I chose the free plan.

Also, is Email forwarding $4 once off or $4 recurring?

    • Oh right, I got it. It's to renew my domain after 2 years (I just got it).

The Email forwarding seems to be $4 once off.

Still figuring this stuff out, I go to my domain and I get some spam webpage with affiliate links everywhere…

  • Thanks so much rep, awesome deal

  • hi rep,
Why do you need the credit card details , this is going to be free forever right?

    • Its OK ,
      paypal bypasses that…

  • sounds like a good deal…

  • hmm, their website states 5 addon domains for free account but in the cpanel it says i can only have 1 addon domain.

error msg: "ATTENTION: Using 1 out of 1 available Addon Domains"
"Warning: You are currently using the maximum number of addon domains."
