Ok Maxkon would that be good for a bit of fun. What are the differences that I need to know about as I have looked at ebay and there are some for lots of $$. My budget is cheap, as most of it will come from son's Christmas money, about $50. I want something that will find maybe bottle top or two and I do not know anything, so I am hoping to get some info from Ozbargainers.
If you just want bottletops and random bits of metal then I am sure one from a toyshop would be fine.. they are pretty basic until you go up to $300 or so. The more high tech ones can reject junk and have settings for different things. If its just a kids toy then go to Toys R Us they should have something there.

I'm not sure how powerful this is but it says ideal for beach combing and prospecting as well as finding objects in obscured locations. You can do your own research about this product.

yes, I have done comparison web sites and found them as cheap as $50 but do not know if they are any good, they say they are battery operated, so not sure about how long they last as well. thanks
Depends on your budget and what you want. I just bought a maxkon metal detector from oz-auction off ebay recently, haven't used it yet, but it seems pretty good for what I want. Cheapest I've seen on ebay is $69.95 delivered, but they are going for up to $130 that I saw.
