Anyone has ever lodged a claim with Coles Home Insurance? What was the experience like?
My current home insurance, ANZ, has gone up by 25%. I did a quote with Coles Home Insurance and I could save $300 at minimum.
Tried to search the Internet, but unable to find if people have had good experience with their claims.

As someone who sells insurance (of all types) I would strongly suggest you investigate further
I don't have specific feedback on Coles but wouldn't consider it unless you do a word for word comparison with your current policy
If you have any unusual items e.g. expensive jewellery, antiques, cash, collections (even dvd and cd count) then you will need to read the restrictions on those in whatever cover you buyANZ insurance is a rebadged QBE Insurance product - QBE are Australia's largest insurance and rate well for customer service usually (although not sure how the ANZ connection effects that)
You have to buy a policy expecting to use it and purchase accordingly
If you expect to never use it then why buy at all?In the end insurance is paying for a promise to help when needed
Would you accept a promise from a Coles check-out chick or from a Indian call centre?
I wouldn'tPoint taken. I had lodged 2 claims with ANZ in the past and no issues at all (although I had to chase tradies who were slack to turn up - not the insurer's fault). I have gone through the PDS, some difference in wording but unless an event has occured, it is a bit hard to be 100% sure whats covered and not. Would be great if we have some ozbargainers who have had experience with Coles Home Insurance
I have experience with Coles and CBA insurance.. I was in same boat and Changed to Coles last year.. Had to lodge a complain with Coles and figured out they were awesome.. my insurance premium was down by 43% when I swapped from CBA and customer service was up by 50%. In the end I would trust both Coles Check out Chic and Indian Call centre…
Mate, in the end don't forget for anyone to do business in Australia they have to abide by both Australian Rules and Regulations.. Small players are usually good to start with coz to get customer they have to rely upon feedback and good is always better.. ACCC and FOS are very good if you are in shits.. Remember if they dont tell you something in PDS then you are not espected to know it….
I am happy with my choice.. so 1. Reduce your premium and save money in your pocket, 2. Give small players a chance and increase the competition… and hence force sharks to work for your business. Dont believe in someone just saying dont trust someone just because she is working on a check out counter.. remember she is working for her living.. unlike Sharks and Resellers who just work for profit…
Give them a chance…Thanks for the comments. Good to hear that in your instance, the claim process is good. I will look into the pds in details again as some of the events are more restrictive than ANZ's. I wouldnt say Coles insurance is a small player though due to the backing of Wesfarmers. However you are right, Coles Insurance is a relatively new player hence could be the reason why they are much cheaper. I currently use Bingle for my car insurance, no call center to contact for enquiries however they had been great and paid 2 write off claims due to hail storm 2 years ago
My girlfriend is with bingle, they have been terrible.
i cbf telling the whole experience, but basically they ask their customers to pay the excess first, even if its not ur fault. and will refund you later, but 5 months later, my girlfriend is still waiting for bingles refund, even thou they say they will do it soon.
I have Coles car insurance as it was 25% cheaper than AAMI.
I haven't made a claim with Coles though.
With coles too - saved nearly 50% of Budgets last premium, and got Rating 1 for life protected.
I originally moved from Suncorp to Budget to save money.
I am with coles home and content insurance.
2 reasons why I chose them:
- the cheapest so far
- it was recommended on money magazine, and won many awards for best value insurance.
My personal experience? When CANSTAR means that a provider is the best value for money, you can save at least 20% by trying someone else. I don't know why CANSTAR do this.
- Work Out What You Need
- Get Quotes (use CANSTAR as a shopping list)
- Save Money! As one example, do you want personal insurance (eg. theft or loss outside of the home)? If so, what excess? What level of cover.
There are many questions you need to ask. Noone can tell you what your needs are.
I was recently with AAMI, but they let me down badly - after being with them for a long time. To be fair, there was a small caveat on page 34 of the policy guide that wasn't drawn attention to in any way/shape/form. It only cost me $14,000 - and them, one customer who almost never claimed anything.
Do your homework!
Check Cannex rating.
I think Woolies/Coles rated well - might have been for car insurance though.
