It's not great - even just battery life would make it difficult to use for demanding kids.

If you're after a budget tablet, a lot of people think very highly of Ainol:

It's 50% more expensive but probably worth it.

  Don't get the Paladin — it's a very old model that has been superseded by the Aurora (and now the Crystal) series.
  
  It also only has 512mb of RAM and runs an Xburst processor — which has app compatability issues.
  
  Get the Ainol Crystal, Aurora 2 or Fire.
  
  Another alternative is the Cube U23GT

    Yeah Paladin would probably be worse than OP's Allwinner A13 based tablet. At least Allwinner has better compatibility with apps and games.
