Value for money pressure cooker

I'm looking for a value for money pressure cooker preferably a stove top one however if the price difference is considerable will consider a benchtop one. Main concern is safety.

  • If your main concern is safety I would steer clear of the stovetop models. The only times I have ever heard of a pressure cooker busting its guts is when it has been a stovetop cooker.

I would stay away from the one piece cookers as they are a bit of a drag to clean, go for the ones with the removable pot.

I use a Casera cooker that I bought from Crazy Clarks, cost $40-something. The interface is annoying in that it offers only pre-programmed cooking options rather than manually setting the cooker for a certain temperature and time. Otherwise, it does the job.

They'll only do this if they're allowed to boil dry

      • A pressure cooker builds up pressure. Too much and it can explode. It can happen if the cooker is boiled dry or not.

Most of the electronic models have safety valves that blow before the cooker does, but Granny's old stovetop cooker might not have those.

  • I didn't know you could get them for that cheap and definitely not from somewhere like Crazy Clarks thanks for the tip.

  • I decided on this one http://www.pressurecooker.com.au/PCC-Products/Pressure-Cooke… because I wanted control over how long it cooks for and also because electric ones could fail electrically as well as mechanically. After abit of reading up I decided against cheaper aluminium ones because they affect the flavour by leeching into acidic meals. This model also has a safety valve and apparently it's not whether its electric or stove top that affects it but rather if a fragment of food blocks the steam releasing or if oil is used instead of water.

I also found a lot of helpful information here:
