Steel Flat-Pack 4 Shelf Unit (50kg/Shelf) - $7 at Officeworks Bondi Junction NSW

390

Officeworks Bondi Junction had at least eight of these shelving units marked down to $7 on the clearance table near the front entrance. The website link shows $21.98 and they still scan at $21.98, but the in-store sticker says $7. Make sure the staff manually adjust the price to $7, otherwise they'll try to charge you the full price. They had to call a manager to authorise the $7 price for me, but it all went through smoothly. I went back later to buy another and they tried to charge me full price again, so I had to make sure it was marked down manually.

It's probably a manager's special so I can't assume other stores will have it at this price, but you can give it a go.

UPDATE: I scanned in the receipt, but it says 'Price Override-Soiled/Damaged' next to the item. I'm guessing this comment was added specifically to prevent price-matching at other stores. I'm not one to stop people trying though, so here's the receipt:

I'm pretty sure last time I bought some of these shelves they were around the $30 mark when on special, so it's a pretty good bargain!

Steel 4 Shelf Unit Black

Simple assembly, with easy adjustment.

Dimensions: 710 x 300 x 1370 mm.

Weight Capacity: 50kg per shelf.

5 year warranty.

They also had a brown three box storage set marked down to $9 on the clearance table. Can't find the item on the website, but I saw them a few months ago for about $30. Worth a look if you need some small decent looking well built storage boxes.

Can you please scan the receipt ? but it looks like out of stock in OW website . Thanks,

    • I just scanned the receipt but noticed it says 'Price Override-Soiled/Damaged' under the item. While there was nothing wrong with the items I purchased, they probably deliberately use this code to prevent price-matching at other stores. There's no way a store could price match a brand new item against something sold as a damaged item.

Might be worth a try anyway, so here it is:

  • Looks like the one i got from Supercheap for around $25.

    • Very similar I think. Last time I bought one at Supercheap it was about $30 on special, but it may have been a 75kg/shelf unit or something a bit larger. That was years ago at an old office, so I can't put them side-by-side to compare.

Actually the specs are identical, they could even be exactly the same thing!

The brand name written on the box is 'Geelong Shelving.'

      • I got one similar at Bunnings for $15

  • amazing price!

  • Price is showing $21.98 and some stores are showing stock (checked for 3149).

Will other OW stores match this price?

  • Edit: Deleted my lame joke. I blame friday

    • Aww why? Lame jokes are my favourite.

    I just scanned the receipt:

BTW the comment on the receipt says 'Soiled/Damaged' but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the storage units. I haven't opened them yet but the boxes were all intact and appeared undamaged.

I'm guessing that if it says Soiled/Damaged, you probably won't be able to price match. Maybe that's why they use that description for clearance items.

Maybe a disgruntled officeworks employee took a dump on the box.

      • you spelt eskimo wrong

        • +4

You spelt Gobbler wrong. Are you female, that would be swell. Also at the time EskimoJoe was taken and therefore i went with escimojoe as i didn't want an email with numbers in it. You're the first person to ever mention it since 1999. Well done.

          You both spelled 'spelled' incorrectly

        • Did we? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelt

          But seriously http://www.thefreedictionary.com/spelt

Edit - If i hadn't used up my negative vote allowance up for today i would down vote your comment.

  • $15-25 is standard for these shelves. you can get them at bunnings, officeworks, even supercheap.

    I have 2

  • Price too good to be true (cost price?).. Great find.

I bought the HYLLIS shelving unit from ikea a little while ago (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/10172897/) for $13 a pop (actually bought 6 of them) with 3 on each side for storage in an enclosed space.. As they are quite light (and somewhat flimsy - not suited for daily use) I used cable ties to join them together which gives greater stability, and as long as the items you place on them are equally distributed in weight (ie boxes) they seem to hold up well (25kg per shelve) which doesn't compete with the Officeworks one at 50kg per shelve…

I've had the unfortunate luck of having dealt with those same Ikea shelves at a job once - they are so flimsy I wouldn't even consider them a bargain for $5. But these Officeworks ones are pretty sturdy.

  • Anyone had a look in Sydney CBD to see if same are available? Exactly what I need for the garage..

just gave OW bondi a call to check stock before i headed in - they are all gone

    • Thanks for that update, I just marked the deal as Expired. The thread may remain active a bit longer though as people try to price-match.

I can imagine quite a few Officeworks managers are having a bad day because of me! Yes, I do feel bad for them… but happy with my purchase!

  • has anybody got a receipt without the 'Soiled/Damaged' comment ? thx

  • Got one of these at bunnings for like $12-$14 the other week.

  • The shelves I bought from bunnings for $15 were steel though quite thin. Still a bit flimsy but do the job under the stair where they now live.

  • Has anyone actually found these at another Officeworks for the same price, or was it just that store?

STAY AWAY from this thing - I bought one of these from Officeworks Bondi for $21 thinking it is cheap but Bunnings has a very similar one for $17. Took one of these home and there are so many bolts to put this together and it took me about 1.5 hours, the shelves are so flimsy even after it was all bolted together, the metal sheets are so thin I doubt it can hold 20kg, let alone 50kgs. In addition, this thing is quite small so depends on what you plan to put on it.

I ended up buying a $139 one from bunnings which is boltless and much bigger and it took me less than half an hour to put together and so much simply - I guess you get what you paid for at the end.

    • yeah i bought one of those shelves from bunnings too - holds like 250kgs per shelf. Its expensive but is very sturdy!

    • Depends on what you want to use it for.

    • Stay away from a $7 shelf because one that's 19 times more expensive is better? Makes perfect sense…

      • In my case - yes, all I am trying to point out is it is a pain to put together and it is very flimsy so does not work very well as a shelf, in my opinion is a waste of $7 considering the effort and time required.

        • Its $7. Time for some perspective.
