A store where I get my 3d prints said that he buys his filament in a sort of colours for $4/kg. Has a wholesale account
The cheapest I've seen is $13.
Where would I go to buy filament at a price around $4-6
Cheap Filament Where to Get

Where would I go to buy filament at a price around $4-6
Perhaps direct from China, by the container load.
This is the most likely answer.
BTW- retail filament prices direct from the manufacturers on Taobao, within China, are more that $4-6 a kilo.
yeah that's what I found out. I can get 1kg for around $10-11
Is it any good?
Does it jam?
Does it require constant drying?
Ive made shortcuts, and the jams and clogging is not worth it.
Temu, Alliexpress and Taobao - all come from the manufacturers ;)
is it USD or AUD? I source PETG at $3.96 USD from manufacturer in China (I believe it is the cheapest filament I can source) but once you add shipping, customs fees, document fees, port fees, delivery fee from port to me that $3.96 USD becomes $10 AUD. You also need to buy 1000kg+ to get cheap shipping rates.
I sell filament
Yeah my guess is OP has interpreted that cost quite literally, but then have to add on all the other costs of "doing business" here.
with all costs, i'm looking at $12 per kilo including gst

Cool, so you offered to buy it from him $8/kg and they accepted?
Yeah op what was the go mate
No, I'm just asking
Why didn't you ask them if they'll sell you some cheap filament?
Because I don't have a 3d printer, i just bought one and now I find out that there is none under $10
@sunnyc: You bought a 3D printer and didn't think to check what the cost of the only regular consumable is?
Anyways, standard pricing is $15-20 from various sources. Unless you are printing 25cm solid cubes, or printing commercially 24x7 then materials cost is not a major concern.
@Jimothy Wongingtons: Never gone in on one of those bulk Jayo deals tbh… I know they are great value, just don't like the colours!
Is filament the material 3d printers use?
It's answered in the first sentence of the OP.
Cheaper to print first try on a $30 roll than fourth try on a $15 roll
For the simple filaments, there is almost no correlation between price and printability. (Especially as you can't get any of the properly challenging filaments for $30 anyway.)
If you can't print $15 PLA, the problem is with the user, not the filament.
For common filaments, you are going to be paying extra for special colours (unless you're buying something like Prusament which has more consistent dimensional stability, and is manufactured in Prague).
I bought a $15 creality filament from Jaycar to test out
When you find out, let us know.
