Nice price for a 4TB drive - cheapest on staticice.

Just a heads up that the 2TB drives are still $98, so if you're not overly particular about all your data being on the one drive, it's a bit cheaper (just under $0.05 per GB, $52 less).

Was $79 a few days ago too!

    • I have 4 of these in my microserver using drive bender to make a large 16tb drive. No issues yet

Still room for an extra 2 off them for 24tb total storage. So depends on your requirements to which size drive is best.

These are also seagate XT drives inside which are 7200 so they not green, most cheap 2tb drives are greens

      • Is it easy to shuck the drives from these things ?

        • yep took about 5-10 mins if you trying not to break it

    • While I sort of agree with you. You are comparing 2TB expansion desktop with 4TB backup plus. The 2TB backup plus drives are $129 and with two of those will be $8 more expensive than the 4TB.

      • I didn't say they were a better deal and criticise this, I was just comparing the raw storage vs price. Personally, I don't see much point in a 'backup drive' over a regular one, but obviously not everyone shares that opinion.

Good price but it seems the 3tb drives are the sweet spot atm in terms of $/gb.

  • A pretty good price, reminds me that I need a back up for my NAS (currently 2TB usable space, only half filled)

True, that's why OP said "so far".

  • Bing Lee have the WD My Book 4TB for $249

And last year (Nov 2012) you could have stack it with the the $30 AMEX credit back.

    • The WD drive at Bing is sold out currently if you click on the link.

    • The Seagate Drive is better than in the WD My Book

  • I missed out on the $118 3tb christmas deals so would this be a better choice? I need a new ext hdd now since I have no space left. Dont know much about ext hard drives so would this be ok?

    • Depends on how much space you need.

  • Where does Officework ship their items from?

  • Umart has internal 3tb seagates with 7200 spin for $139
Installed 2 in my box today.
    http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2…

    • The drives in these boxes are seagate XT drives.
A 3tb seagate XT internal still sells for around $285 if you can still find them http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004VLZSHE/ref=dp_olp…

The 3tb you quote up there is a ST version

      • Whats the difference between XT and ST for us noobs?
I thought spin speed and cache size was what was important, the above ST being the same as the XT

  • Officeworks provides such crappy services, just ordered one yesterday and its now 5pm today and yet nothing. call them and was put on hold while some lady called the driver and after 2 min she hanged up. I called again and waiting for 10min now with the machine talking over and over again. Still no one picking up, ridiculous service. Should have bought from JB, sigh….

  • LOLs at calling after 5pm on a Friday arvo and expecting service.

    • Would have called earlier but decided to give the driver a chance and gave him until 5pm before calling and whinging to them about parcel not coming. The fact that I had to call them 3 times for something that should have already been done. Still hasnt come, next day delivery more like next 4 days…
Their site does say call Mon-Fri 8am-8pm….
