Recommendations for House and Contents Insurance [Melbourne]

I am wanting recommendations for house and contents insurance for Melbourne suburbs. Easy claims, easy to contact, good prices, etc. Has anyone used ING?

Have been with RACV for 40 odd years but premiums have gone up and up and I'm looking to change.

Insurance is a personal matter and rates depend on many variables for your location, profile, history, inclusions, extras, excess etc. You need to do the legwork to see what offers you can find for your specific use case.

If you have a mortgage, can sometimes get a good
Price with their insurance provider (I’m with Allianz as BOM use them and got a really good price)

  • Thanks, but no mortgage

How old are you? We went with Seniors insurance and they seem to be pretty decent. We’ve put in one claim and they were a tad slow but no problems with paying out. Also they have a people in Australia who answer the calls.

As someone who has been changing various insurances from RACV to other providers - i can say RACV have 'decent' service but that are getting way too expensive

I don’t know if this is an IAG influence? My understanding is RACV has a large stake of ownership in the company that underwrites RACV.

I’m in NSW and use NRMA but have noticed my premiums have gone up the last few years. NRMA is owned by IAG.

I’ve also changed my company for the car and NRMA has managed my car insurances for over 20 years. Great service but was quite expensive. Home and contents I’m still with NRMA because they have the package that best suits my needs.

  • I'm in a similar boat. Up until now, RAA were great and pricing was decent. But the latest increases are just nuts.
