Covid and other airborne diseases didn't just disappear. Even before Covid when someone in our household got sick they would wear a mask in communal areas of the house.

Not everyone has all the time in the world to waste being sick…or the immune system to handle being sick.

I got Covid (3rd time I’ve gotten it) last month, and it knocked me out for 4 days. I continue to test positive 9 days as well!

        • I'm still Covid free after 5 years.

          Hope you feel better.

        • +3

I'm still Covid free and mask free since forever.

My red bull tested positive a few times as well.

Still useful for traveling on planes and even public transport sometimes 👍

These do very little to protect your kids. They're maybe ok for source control but you need p2/n95, preferably headloop if you want to protect them from airborne/aerosolised pathogens.

These help prevent sick people spread their germs.

N95 helps others not get sick.

However, I'd still take this giving some level of protection over nothing at all.

Overall the Catch closing own sale has been very lame, it's no wonder they went out of business.

    • Completely agree, paid for onepass to take advantage of sales… I paid ~$20 and have saved maybe ~$20…..

We survived just fine before 2020 without putting masks on ourselves, let alone children

Masks were used long before 2020.

      What has changed is:
      1) New highly transmissible disease.
      2) Anti vaxxers causing diseases we had under control to become an issue again.
      3) Cheap flights and people travelling across the world much more frequently, causing diseases to spread further and faster and out of the regular flu season of each hemisphere.
      4) Increased population living/working/commuting in same density.

So masks were worn before 2020, and nothing has changed to decrease justification of mask usage, in fact things are worse.

No one's making you protect yourself or your family. Do what you want. But mind your own business if others wear one.

        1. The only new highly transmissible disease of note is Covid. Everything else existing before then

        2. This is blatantly false. Go read a science journal before making such claims.

        3. Nope. These existed prior to Covid too.

        4. Again, this hasn’t changed significantly enough in the past five years to warrant your statement

Everyone is totally free to wear a mask. Go for it. But if you think it’s actually doing anything to improve your health and wellbeing, you’re misguided.

Also, not sure how I need to mind my own business? Discourse is fundamentally important to our society. These issues need to be discussed, not suppressed because someone’s feelings might be hurt

The only new highly transmissible disease of note is Covid. Everything else existing before then

See how I said "New highly transmissible disease". Not an s at end? That means not plural, ie. singular.

The "one new disease" has also killed 7 million people. So kind of a big deal.

This is blatantly false. Go read a science journal before making such claims.

          Ok, done: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264410X2…

Nope. These existed prior to Covid too.

Sure did. But in general international travel is exploded in the last few decades https://www.statista.com/statistics/209334/total-number-of-i… With every year of increased travel, comes more international transmission of diseases.

Again, this hasn’t changed significantly enough in the past five years to warrant your statement

I wore a mask on public transport before Covid during flu season. Lots of people around the world wore masks before Covid. Just not many in she'll be right Australia.

But if you think it’s actually doing anything to improve your health and wellbeing, you’re misguided.

          ok champ.

These issues need to be discussed, not suppressed because someone’s feelings might be hurt

Do you also feel the need to discuss what colour shirt strangers are wearing?

Someone wearing a mask has zero effect on you at all.

However, anti-vaxxers reducing herd immunity on the other hand does effect others.

How insensitive of you. There are many people who didn't survive.

    But why?

  • Having been in Vietnam not too long ago,

Masks are worn constantly over there to avoid the pollution and poor air quality on the road, buncha motorbikes etc, occasional vehicles like older trucks and funny three wheeled mopeds emitting copious amounts of blacksmoke etc…

My kid nephew would appreciate these masks! As normal adult masks are definitely too big for him 🤣.
