Thanks, time to level up my 2yrs old cocomelon watching experience

  • Does anyone know the ATL for this chair i want to buy it, just want to know average pricing for one of these, i live in rockdale but working from home fully.

this is almost 50% off, this is probably ATL

As with a quality mattress, and a quality/ergonomic desk; Herman Miller chairs are key in the trifecta of shit you don't want to cheap out on. Many of us are spending 1/3 of our lives on our desk chair.

I can't speak for the Cosm but I've got an Aeron from 2005 that I picked up used in 2017, which is still going strong in 2025. It drastically reduced my lower back pain over my previous chair. I'd recommend finding a local store where you can physically try them out yourself.

They are essentially in the buy for life category.

    • +1

I agree. I made the change to an Aeron due to back pain.
High sedentary lifestyle 8+ hours of work, 2+ hours of study, 2+ hours of seated entertainment.
I'm a heavier guy with short legs. I went for the size C Aeron with arms and the Atlas Headrest. I sit with the forward-upright tilt, it's a bit strange but better for my back.
~$1.9k felt expensive at the time but my lower back has improved enough that I spend less time/money to see physio.

      • Totally agree ref the Aeron a fantastic chair.

Buying an office chair for health reasons is like going from daily Winnie Blues to daily Cuban cigars. Consider instead a standing desk with a walking pad or a kneeling chair and sit less. Sit way less.

      • Thank you SlinkyDemille. Our previous comments touched on the personal experiences relating to the effectiveness of chair interventions in reducing workplace/lifestyle musculoskeletal issues. I acknowledge there are also other controls and interventions that may be suitable for different individuals.
I wish you and everyone good health and prosperity.

        • Walking while typing sounds a bit tricky. Like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time.

Also, doesn't standing too much cause varicose veins? Seems that you just can't win…

      • Spoken by someone that clearly has no severe back issues that has never had to work out of chair/seat for a living, good for you.

        • +6

If people want a fancy chair because it's comfortable there's nothing wrong with that, but it shouldn't be the first line of defence for issues caused by sedentary lifestyles for 95% of us. Except for very specific health conditions, for most people, exercise is what will reduce your back pain for good.

          • +3

            @SlinkyDemille: Harsh but fair.

          • @SlinkyDemille: Even with a standing desk, it's not something you're going to use for 8 hours a day.

For those with office jobs, you will be sitting for an extended period of the day. you will be repeating this for most of your career. I agree that it shouldn't be the "first line of defence for issues" 100%. However, it's great to use a good quality supportive chair to support your body.

The ultimate combination would be alternating between standing desk/supportive chair throughout the day.

            • @TechMeSomething: Alternating between standing desk/supportive chair is a good idea, but from a purely health perspective, most office workers should aim to sit as little as possible even if it's not 8 hours a day of standing.

There's just so much evidence out there now showing how bad sedentary lifestyles are. Besides the obvious risks like obesity, diabetes, spine and muscle weakening etc. Physical inactivity is also the second highest cause of cancer in Australia. And according to a recent study of 481688 people over 12 years: Compared with the mostly non-sitting group, after adjusting for sex, age, education, smoking, drinking, and BMI, individuals mostly sitting at work had a 16% higher risk of dying by all causes and 34% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Would buying $1000+ chair really help you sit less?

        • People in my office that complain about back pain do 0 physical activity outside of work and/or are obese. The overwhelming majority of people just need to move more.

      • +1

A walking pad is likely a good idea, but generally standing is not any better for you than sitting, at least from large observational studies. Movement seems to be the best option, but it's obviously not something that works for everyone.

      • Well said!!!

Looking at the price, seems to be a marketing plot that works very well, with people having a sedentary lifestyle. Similar to how they market Fitbit to overweight individuals.

      • You shouldn't be downvoted for this. A decent quality office chair with enough adjustability for 1/3 of the price of this will be sufficient for 99% of people. I know, because I had severe lower back pain and attributed it to my chair. As soon as I made some lifestyle choices (running 3-4 times a week, alternating between sitting and standing) my back pain went away. Yes this won't be the case for everyone, but being sedentary is a fast track to permanent issues later in life.

Mate, you would get full set of heated leather Mercedes seats for $200-300.

    • Brand new?

      • +6

'Brand new" from his ulehs in Greenacre…

  • Why only NSW?

    • +1

      Too expensive for other states.

  • i got one on marketplace for $100. be aware the seats on these are very short, made even shorter by it being one piece of mesh.

    • Might not be suited for tall people I guess

  • +2

I have the Herman Miller Mirra 2 with 5 modes of adjustments and I honestly prefer the simpler Ikea computer chair lol. With the HM, I can't sit flush with the seat and it always feels like I'm slipping off the edge, no matter what adjustment I make. With the Ikea one, I sit down and done, like any other normal arse chair.

    • honestly prefer the simpler Ikea computer chair lol.

which ikea one is that? Markus? Jarvfjallet? Matchspel? The all mesh Styrspel? the new budget Loparbana?

or is it the expensive Gruppspel?

      • Just the RENBERGET

        • all those names I listed and it wasn't one of them. 😂

the $59 one ok unexpected. I was thinking Langfjall or Hattefjall at the very least.

so buys Herman Miller Mirra 2 ($1.5k $2k?), prefers the $59 Renberget because it chairs like a chair. fair enough thanks for the answer. 🙏

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Mirra 2 was $2k yeah. Yes, the cheapo renberget doesn't make me feel like I'm always about to slip off.

            • @marshmall0w2: I like the look of the Hattefjall. it's just it seems so overpriced like $150 more than it should be. I posted a forum post awhile ago about ikea prices in general going up. can't say that for sure about this chair because I only discovered it recently..

I don't live near an ikea either so yeah I guess that solves a lot of things I want to get from there.

  • What's the OZB choice for Office Chairs?

  • This or ergohuman which is also on sale?
    https://www.templeandwebster.com.au/Ergohuman-Ultra-Mesh-Off…

    • I bought the Luxury version direct from their website.
There's a bolt that's come loose (and continues to do so) and their response was for me to fix it myself with Loctite. The alternative was to ship the chair back into them.
Supposedly, every part on the chair can be replaced (if it were to break) - Unlike budget chairs from Officeworks etc.

Other than that issue, chair is great and extremely comfortable.

      https://www.ergohuman.com.au/ergohuman-2-office-chair-model-…

    • I found a review about this chair on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/OfficeChairs/comments/1h40rxd/ergoh…

      • The Ergohuman range is very confusing. I believe the review is referring to a different "V2" obsolete model.

"Please note that the Ergohuman V1, V2 and V3 are obsolete models. They are not the Ergohuman 2 which is the new generation of Ergohuman Chairs."
        Source: https://www.ergohuman.com.au/ergohuman-2-office-chair/

        • I thought confusion is on purpose, to make price comparison difficult. Retailers all stock something slightly different and exact difference is vague.

Almost like the mattress business, same mattress carries different labels at different retailers.

    • not in the same class.. Steelcase leap v2 is more comparable

    • I use this exact chair. After gertting use to it, I do really love it! I was considering this Herman Miller, but no head rest is deal breaker

  • This chair is only height adjustable (along with arm rest height).

Auto-Harmonic means there's no range or tension adjustment, it's automatic, if you don't like it there's not fine tuning.

It's one of those things best to try it, but can be difficult depending on your location.

  • +2

Sold out? I only see it for $2445

    • Yeah it shows as $2445 for me too

  • I can testify this chair is great for those who don't want to optimise or fiddle around with seating position or adjustment. Great comfort for 95% of people.
