Hi all, just wondering is there a way to block ads in those freemium kids app?
Thought AdGuard would do that, but apparently no, so just wasted my money.

Umm no.. How to do it? Sorry I'm basic newbie
Bottom set of tabs pick the second one called Protection. Click DNS Protection. Ensure implementation is set to Adguard. Click on server and enable Adguard dns. It will ask you to allow access to setup a VPN. Say yes to it and let it set it up.
if you dont know anything about DNS, watch this may be Peter Lowe or quad9
Airplane mode before you launch the app.
Pihole or adguard home.
I jist bought AdGuard, but it still didn't block the ads in the app. How do I go about it?
there's too many adguards, best one is Adguard Home which you run at home yourself on your own server 24/7.
otherwise next best option is Adguard private DNS (like they resolve all your DNS queries), upto 300,000 a month is free per account, next you get choice to switch to $0 and public Adguard DNS rules (94.140.14.14) or you pay $X for continuing to resolve DNS according to your online DNS rules and blocklists
100% going to say the same thing about the PiHole.
Have mine set up and can’t remember the last time I saw an in app ad while in the house… but holy shit when I use my iPad on public wifi… how do people live like that.
dunno
in my kids android tablet i gotta turn off private dns, and setup adguard home on the home router..then i sometimes have to manually blacklist certain dns' through trial and error
NextDNS app works well.
For apps AdGuard wont be enough unless you are using their DNS services & sending ALL traffic on the tablet through them, even then that wont stop adds that dont need to resolve an add-server address (if they dont need to resolve a domain name they wont touch any Domain Name Server, so using a blocking DNS does nothing) https://adguard-dns.io/en/public-dns.html
Many embedded app adds also use the same domain/server as the content to make blocking them harder, especially apps from google. I use modified android apps for things like youtube, you have to actually modify the app itself to avoid youtube adds on mobile, its a non-starter for apple gear.
Do you modify the app yourself? If not, do you trust the modified app is not doing anything malicious? And if you do trust it, on what basis?
Valid questions, but on the flip side do you trust the unmodified app is not doing anything malicious and if so on what basis?
Adguard is ok and works well in certain situations, but I find NextDNS app to work the best, in combination with https://nextdns.io/
Sign up for the free account, put that into the app on your iPad. Works for me, but as mitt suggests, it might not work for all games.
Yep any money spent for epil product is waste of money.
Did you change the DNS on Adguard DNS? It’s not on by default.
