  • Bought a "genuine" Syma chopper for $22 a couple of months ago. The thing lasted for a week or so, with dubious authenticity as well.
The above deal would be heaps good as it's about the same price, and you get to have two of them. I'll pick one up if I come across them.

    • It is clearance stock, better be quick :D

infrared control works indoor only (better)?

    • Swann Air Duel Helicopter Twin Pack is to be played indoor

    • +2

I got an infrared Heli for Christmas.. it works (worked, one of the drive cogs is knackered) outside OK, but it's almost impossible to control in even the slightest breeze as the heli tilts off-axis.
I'm addicted though, so bought these to make do until my eBay replacement arrives! ($16.50 delivered, so these work out $1.50ea cheaper than eBay)
They look the same, so hopefully I can scavenge parts from the old one as required.

    • +1

I tried outdoors, 2 things happened.

      1) The sun played havoc with the IR controls
      2) The wind almost took it home

      Inside might be best :)

      • +1

I had no problem with the sun..although I was using it in the middle of the day so the receiver (on the underside of the heli) would have been in complete shade.

Adelaide shop (Gawler Place) had a few of these in stock on Saturday.

    • Yea I just saw a guy walking out of there with one at lunch today.

      • +1

        he was eating it?

  • nvm

    • +1

You just beat me…I was going to reply "Exactly!" ;)

      • Yeah I thought I was being smart re: duel, but the word is everywhere on the DSE site, so I guess it's intentional?

Just saw the same R/C copter set on my work-related rewards catalogue, 6926 points (= approx. $110)! lolololol

  • If its anything like the ones I got, they are uncontrollable even with trim. Of course, maybe they hit something and broke. But you're going to do that immediately anyway so….

    Good luck!

  • +1

I saw these the other day in store. Not sure what the price was then. I'd rather have one good one that's durable and able to be controlled reasonably well (with some skill required after a learning curve) than two that aren't that great. Anyone know the quality of these Swann units?

  • +2

Hi guys, if anyone can recommend a cheap helicopter (besides a $400 quadracopter) ive got a Sony action cam, weighs about 68grams, so would want it to lift that, rather indoor as i know one fart from the dog will send thi sone flying and won't be able to lift it. Just a side note, I bought these before, gave them to kids and they loved them. I just want something with a little more POWAR!!!!

    • +9

You lost me at "dog fart downs helicopter".

    • +1

Its very difficult to put your own camera on because it has to be perfectly balanced or it won't fly properly.

  • +2

Bought a set on Saturday and have been reasonably impressed with them.
Comes with a USB charger for both which I thought was good. We've crashed them into each other a few times and hit other obstacles many times and theyve come up fine. Build seems to be of a reasonably high quality.

Minor annoyance was that you have to turn them on in separate rooms or they both seem to sync to one controller which is less than ideal!

There was a dozen or so at TTP (SA) on Saturday - scattered around the store (at least 3 different places)

    • i didn't know that the infrared controller pairs with the heli!!!
If they both have the same receiver then it's normal(and fun) that one control moves them both.

      • +1

P.s. After reading the manual here http://www.swann.com/webfiles/download/1965Air_Dual_MARDUEL0…
apparently there is a sort of pairing(A/B frequency select) so you can operate up to 2 of them in the same room at the same time

      • +1

Yeah they work fine together but seem to forget their pairing if you turn them off…
Not a big issue, still lots of fun!

    • this might be stupid, but I couldn't confirm it comes with 2 remote controllers. From the annoyance you mentioned, it should come then.

      • Yes there are 2 controllers and the controllers have 2 channels so you can fly both heli's in the same room without issue (all it takes is the tiniest bit of common sense, or lacking that, reading the manual to find this out, clearly Prongs has neither common sense, nor has he/she read the manual, which is surprisingly well constructed!)
The Heli's pair to an active controller when they are turned on, so you need to turn them on individually, otherwise they might pair to the same controller!
Now having thought of that, it sounds like an awesome idea… I'm going to try synchronised flying tonight!!!

        • The problem with common sense is that it is not so common.
          -Voltaire

        • If you think it makes common sense to have to re-pair every time you turn on a remote control it is you that lacks it.

  • What's better? These or twister pro (also on dse website)?

    • -1

Twister Pro. But there is two of the Sawns helis.

  • +2

I bought this package for the kids last XMas, heaps of fun. Anything that keeps them off the PS3 has to be good! Indoor only. Comes with a little bit of cardboard with a Helicopter landing pad printed on it. We had great fun trying to leave the landing pad in 'difficult to land' places like on a bookshelf etc and then seeing who could land on it. Ours have lasted pretty well. 1 is still in great shape, my younger son's one has taken more of a beating and the motor sounds a bit dodgy and one of the stabilising fins has broken off but it seems to still run OK.

DS in the strand arcade Melbourne had several sets. Some were still marked with the original price. Had some other goodies too, i bought a $10 Christmas Eiffel tower. Also had a $20 RC helicopter that could shoot missiles! Pew pew pew!

    • +5

What kind of missiles were they? Sidewinders or Hellfire?

      • +4

North Korea kind… didn't work too well :(

        • Explains why it sunk like a stone!

    • Just saw this missile helicopter on DS website. It looks really fun but does it hold up well? In my past experience these helicopters break with one hit on hard furniture…

      • I bought the missle helicopter (Heli Sniper) and am going to return it.

It can't hover, keeps spinning around and the trim function doesn't work to fix it.

Also please note it can't go backwards, only up/down and forward/turn left/turn right.

Just click and collected at Livingstone (Canning Vale) One Christmas present sorted for next year!! Heaps around the area I noticed:)

    • Birthday presents sorted? :)

    • +2

This year or next year? :)

      • +2

Both, one copter this year one next year ;)

    • +1

The batteries will probably be worse for wear (or misuse in this case) by Christmas next year

  • Are these packaged separately?

  • It looks like $30 is the RRP now when I saw the price tag at my local DSE.

    • +2

Was ticketed at $60 when I grabbed one this arvo. Salesperson was surprised when it scanned up at $30. Hehe.

      • Yes this is a clearance stock, once it is sold out there will be no more at this price :)

  • +1

only 8 minutes of flying time ?!?!

    • Yes same as any other indoor RC helicopers around 6 to 8 minutes

  • +1

    If you cant get these,

    I reccomend a Syma S107 from Banggood.com

  • +1

bought 1 today, great fun. Scared the shit out of my little doggy. hehe i know i'm going to hell for that :)

  • A silly question, what happens when they fly out of the range?

    • They just fall down

    • It appears that they keep going until they crash or the battery runs dry!
I flew mine outside yesterday and the wind caught it while at full throttle… Although I tried to down-throttle, it remained at full speed and would have ended up in the neighbours yard but for hitting the gutter of the shed!

  • description says batteries not included, is this the case?

    • +1

      Not included for the controllers.

  • +1

Bought one today!Sweet deal…thanks so much for posting this!

  • Well that didn't last long. One of them is refusing to pair with either controller on either band now. I really wish they just put a selector switch on the unit to use band A or B instead of doing auto pairing.

I'm giving it a charge to see if that helps if not I'll have to take them back.

  • +1

picked mine up tonight - bought the last one in Stafford store (city sold out) using click and collect yesterday - anyhow uses 6 AA batteries in each controller which charges the choppers - so DSE sold me 40 AA batteries to go with! anyway I asked for a deal and got the 40 pack of AAs for $18.50 instead of $25 :) OzB rules!

  • just bought one today, not bad at all. easy to fly
thought the charge time on these is a buzz kill…45-60mins for 8mins of fun?
can you use a power point usb charger to charge these or will it overpower and blow out the battery?

    • I got it yesterday from DS Moonee ponds shopping center and charge them directly through USB.

I find the charging time is less than 45 minutes? according to manual, once the USB connection light switched on, the charge is complete…is that true?

      Been playing both copters since yesterday;
Hit furniture, carpet floor, wife's leg (yes… it was bit of drama, but I managed to wing it hehe) and Christmas tree; and the copter still flying, great stuff!!!

  • hey - stuffed if I can fly it but my teenage boys have them figured and having a blast with them

i am using the USB on my PC - havn't tried AC/USB

  • Just bought one in Boxhill (VIC)
There's still 6no on the shelf if anyone's interested.
    Cheers

This thread's probably dead, but it appears to me that these Swann brand helis are Syma S107's in a Swann box. The circuit board is printed with S107 and they are Very good quality units.

    • yeah agreed
