Workaround for Booking.com Pricejack with ShopBack?

I'm trying to book a hotel, shopback have 8.5% cashback for booking.com.

But when clicking through with Shopback, they add $55 (11%) on to the price which turns out to be more expensive when using shopback even after cashback. FFS.

Is there any way to beat their dishonest (frankly it should be illegal) price jacking?

  • Maybe book direct and not reward a cashback scheme that is trying to rip you off?

    • Well yeah, but id rather get ~$40 off the $499 price if thers a way around it somehow :|

  • I can't help you with that but that really does seem super scammy. I'm surprised that Booking.com even allows that!

  • this practice is lure bait when you actually may ended up the same or even slightly higher price. im sure ACCC would very interested on this and fine them

Does the ACCC have an office in The Netherlands? 🇳🇱

Use a Visa card and get the cashback that way - https://www.visa.com.au/en_au/visa-offers-and-perks/bookingc…

  • They always bump it up, but it could be booking.com doing that.
Have you tried searching your dates through Tripadvisor? I've found that clicking through there always gives me the best price.
Your dates are blacked out but I searched 26th-27th May and that gave me $401 for the night.

  • fairly sure it is Booking.com (or Agoda) who do the prices. I've noticed it with both Shopback and Cashrewards, some (not always) hotels will come out more expensive after activating cashback. I think without cashback activated, booking.com is applying their own discount essentially, and with cashback it is removing the discount.
