7800X3D+5080 or 9800X3D+5070TI?

Just wondering which combination would be better? Actual performance is better?

    7800X3D + 5070ti

There's not a huge variance between those CPUs if you aren't playing in 1080p (and why would you use a 5080 for 1080p?)

I would 100% go for the 7800X3D+5080 if you can source a 5080 for a reasonable price.

7800X3D+5070Ti would be a good combo though if you don't plan on running AI workloads/doing professional work on the card.

The whole "CPU differences only show up at 1080p" is wrong for 1% and 0.1% lows for 99% of games and on a very new game and very old games it will show up even on 1440p and 4k for the main fps. New games because they are normally CPU bottlenecked and old games because they can't use more than 1 or a few cores and speed really matters. 9800x3d can also be overclocked for even more performance.

      • I was talking purely in terms of 7800X3D vs 9800X3D

Check the gamersnexus benchmarks and watch the video

        https://gamersnexus.net/cpus/rip-intel-amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d-c…

In the video he says the 1% lows is negligible difference and you can see what kind of numbers they are getting at 1080p. If you go up to 1440p or 4K you will have like 5fps difference on the lows which is not going to be much of a decider.

        • People use dlss and fsr to render at a lower resolution which does show up. Not many people play at native 4k. If you are playing something that you probably shouldn't use dlss on like an fps game those need as much 1% lows as you can get and they are normally CPU bottlenecked games like fortnite and csgo for example.

    9800X3D + 5080

    • +3

      Why not 9800X3D + 5090? /s

      • why not 9950X3d and 2x 5090s??

  • Depends if TI is greater than 1 or less than 1.

Better performance in what? Chrome dinosaur game?

  • 7800x3d and 5080 but it does depend on what you play. Also the 7800x3d has been dropping recently. You idk if you would want to wait a bit to see if the price is going to drop more. Also the first comment makes a good point. The 5080 is quite disappointing imo. 5070 ti is definitely the best value card in the 50 series. Amd 9070 xt is also good and is what I'm getting in my new build.

No love for 9070xt? It sits between the 5070ti and the 5080 for performance.
Totally get staying with NV but a all AMD PC is looking good right now.

    • Even though I am getting the 9070xt myself I feel like it can be hard to switch. Im only tempted because I have a gtx 1080 so all the good Nvidia features aren't available on my card anyway. I'm definitely getting an Nvidia card next gen if they actually have a good launch.

    • Are you perhaps confusing the 5070Ti with the regular 5070? The 9070XT is 5-7% slower on average than the 5070Ti in pure raster, 15-21% slower on average with ray tracing, while consuming 35 more watts while gaming. Source: TechPowerUp's review of the 9070XT Pulse.

What made the 9070XT a fantastic choice around its launch was the fact that it performs close to the 5070Ti, while being $370 cheaper when you compare their MSRP ($1,139 vs $1,509). The price gap was actually even wider when you factor in that there was no 5070Ti that was close to MSRP when the 9070XT launched. Now that the gap in price is narrowing ($200 difference between the cheapest models on PGrid), the choice between the two cards is a little less obvious.

      • I'm going off one of the tech forums im in where the 9070xt is far ahead of the 5070ti in Steel nomad benchmark.
Yep its only one benchmark but does show once AMD gets more market share the performance we can expect.
        https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/3dmark-steel-noma…

btw i own both NV and AMD cards, and Im not a fanbio for either, but AMD is good in this gen.

      • It's worth looking at individual games, a number of games the 9070XT is matching or out performing the 5070Ti. It stumbles hard in a few which causes the average difference you refer too.
This is something I feel has always been AMDs weakness though, and why I often went Nvidia if I had the money, drivers just aren't as stable across the board.

nvidia totally muffed the 50 series launch and shouldn't be supported for such…especially when AMD delivered such a good mid range card in the 9070 XT

AMD should be supported more to get the balance back to a more reasonable level, which is better for consumers…..nvidia is like 85% of the gfx market and just look how they gouge us for card prices and terrible stock quantities

if gaming is your primary concern, the 7800X3D + 5080 combo would likely be the best choice. For a balanced high-performance PC with more productivity capability, the 9800X3D + 5070Ti would serve you better

    • -1

If gaming is your primary use case, go for 7800X3D + 5080. If you need a more balanced build for productivity and gaming, the 9800X3D + 5070TI is a better investment.

      • If OP is playing games on his PC, the 7800X3D + 5080 is the way to go. If he does producitivity stuff too and wants a more balanced system, the 9800X3D + 5070Ti would be better for OP.

Depends what you are doing but if your games are more GPU intensive go with 5080, otherwise if it’s more CPU intensive (simulation games like Cities Skylines 2) then go with the 9800X3D

  • 5080

  • +1

neither options will cause you a bottleneck, you will just bottleneck elsewhere

also……why is the 9070 XT not listed, its basically the much cheaper equivalent to the 5070 ti

  • What games are people playing to need these kind of specs?

Im running a 5800x3D and a 6800XT and getting decent frame rates in most AAA games.

    • The monke game

      That title hates RX cards

  • 7800d3d and 5080
