pointless paying for GPS when google and apple provides voice guided navigation

Google is good especially with their new iOS map, but it's doesn't have offline caching for maps. So it depends where you will be traveling, especially if you don't have reception there.

    • +2

There is actually a point. If you are traveling in areas with poor cell coverage or have limited download allowance, then google and apple apps are totally useless…these GPS work anywhere (except for tunnels).

    • I've been using this for 2 years. Highly recommend it!

Regarding Aceboy's comments - AFAIK, Google doesn't have details such as speed cameras and speed limits..

I've got this map and its awesome, kicks the crap out of apple maps.
When you've got no data connection at all and most map apps fail this one keeps going. 900mb well used.

  • Thanks.

$4.75 because of those 2 for 1 $20 cards from Harvey Norman. (Or should that be Buy one get one free $20 cards?)

    • Yeah I did that too, but still kicking myself for buying it at $10.49. True ozbargainer now.

  • I've been using this on galaxy s3 and iphone 4. Very happy with it.

    • Unfortunately it hasn't dropped in price on Play Store yet. Sale seems to be iOS only at the moment.

Terrific app, great value at even full price.

Great price, good app. What would be good would be the ability to pre-plan routes with waypoints and a 'travel via' option. I've also found it takes crazy routes occasionally, but only slightly moreso than my TomTom. Otherwise great.

  • Well liked on Whirlpool, Mactalk and other Aussie forums.
Speed zones data is very good.

    +1

AmazingJas, you can plan trips and 'go via…' or divert 'near to…'

  • Get the Live Traffic for 12 months while you're at it. I find some parts of their user interface a little dark, but the utility of the navigator is pretty decent. It's a bargain even without this discount, but now you wouldn't have any excuse not to get it! Lol.

  • Been using it for years now. Absolutely the best IOS GPS hands-down. Also their support email is very responsive to map suggestions.

Not that it's perfect. But there's no way I'd pay the $50-$100 the big boys are charging for their garbage.

  • If you need a great GPS for your iOS device, GET THIS! I've used it for delivery jobs for 12 months, now, and it rarely lets me down.

  • dont see the point, GPS still works when no data works, so if you have the map/location loaded you dont need to RE load it, gps will update your location… $14 is alot in any event for a time when you might not have cell connection though.,

    • +1

Good thing it's not $14 then, innit? :)

    • And if you don't have the maps loaded?

  • I've tested this side by side with Google Maps, Metroview is far better, not to mention fully offline. It is fantastic value for $14, at $9.50 it is a no-brainer, I prefer it to my standalone Garmin

    • Not to metion the true lifetime updates, as long as you have an iOS device.

    • I have a Garmin with Live Traffic as well as this. Horses for courses. Ironically the Live Traffic option with MetroView may require data while the Garmin doesn't. The Garmin also has a bigger screen.

If you are happy with Google Maps, Navfree GPS will do the trick for offline use. I have used it for a year and its pretty good. Its only 216MB aswell. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/navfree-gps-live-australia/i…

    • Agree on Navfree. I've found it works really well. Have used it frequently in Melbourne and Adelaide, so I can't comment on other locations.

      • I've used Navfree extensively through the USA and found it quite adequate as a freebie. However, it does have a tendency to pick some crazy routes at times and directs you into a small 35mph road parallel to a 65mph freeway.

I also find it a bit frustrating that when you're looking for an address, you need to know the city first (which is a problem when driving in rural areas and you're not quite sure what the official town/area boundaries are).

        But free is free.

  • Love this app, great price.

  • What's the correct way of getting cashback from itunes via starthere (or buckscoop)?

  • I've used this app for years and I can tell you with confidence that it's awesome. The maps are loaded offline so you don't need 3G when using it, and I've rarely had a problem at all in the years I've used it. It's cheap, good, and Australian - the support guys regularly monitor a whirlpool thread so you can tell them any improvements or additions you need, and they respond quickly. Get it … NOW! :)
