Mechanix Tyre Shine

Hi all. I just bought the Mechanix Tyre Shine from Bunnings to try out. It’s not the usual white foam that most tyre shine products do but more like a clear spay that looks and smell like WD40.

It doesn’t leave a “shine” like most but more a duller shine. Anyone had experience with this product or know what the ingredients are? It is not listed on the can. If it is similar to WD40, isn’t that bad for your tyres as prolonged use deteriorates the rubber?

not the usual white foam that most tyre shine products

Do you normally use aerosol tyre shines? I've used many brands (carpro, meguiars, mother, bowdens) but never had the foam.

    more a duller shine

A clean satin finish looks so much better IMHO than the fake over the top shiny crap.

    I can guarantee it's not WD40.

Yes, normally the spray on foam type that leave a shine but not the wet over glossy look.

I agree a subtle clean finish looks better but this Mechanix stuff spray on like WD40! 😄

    • Say no to shiny tyres and dashboards! Satin finishes look way better IMO.

OP, clear spray tyre sheen is common. I'm currently using Meguiar's tyre sheen. It also has the consistency of WD40 with a low sheen finish.

in my 20yrs of cleaning cars, never come across a tyre shine foam

    • what?

      its the most commonly seen…

they spray it on and it foams up and over time the foam dissipates and becomes a shine.

      • i only use quality products, eg; bowdens own…not some shabby foam crap

I've never seen a car that uses these tyre shine products on the road and thought that it looked better than without it.

There's lots of products that give a satin finish that resembles new tyres. You've probably seen them and not even realised they've had a product applied.

  • I've used it, works fine

  • I just use WD-40

    • smelly

      • No, I showered last Wednesday.
