Just bought this to go with the 5080 deal from techfast :P

    • Good choice because you might receive them in a similar time, lol

    • Did you upgrade the case? CX500M case I believe only supports Micro-ATX and ITX.

      • Yeah I got the C3

        • Nice! Have a great time with your new build when you get it!

Can someone who really knows their 💩 tell me the difference between B650M vs X870e?

I am getting a system with 9800X3D with a RTX 5080. I will be -5 undervolting the CPU and undervolting and overclocking the GPU. I’ll just use CL30 6000MHz 2x48GB RAMs. So the RAMs would only have the XMP profile loaded. No other tinkering

the board quality and component quality is more important than the chipset. Look for the board temp and how much vrms and how much power than can output. Hardware unboxed is good for this as they show all of this in their videos. Unfortunately they don't make many videos so any new boards you need to do your own research. I wish it was like the audio world where everything is measured closely and scrutinized but no you have to go to many different places for different parts and stuff.

But still the chipset kinda does matter depending on what you want. You have high end hardware so you might not want to get the cheapest one but you can definitely get away with it. Amd has what each chipset gives you and hardware unboxed has many good videos. Most of the stuff that changes is amount of USB ports, type of USB ports and how many pcie slots and what speed they run at.

Im still trying to understand everything but this seems like a good deal so I just bought this. Unfortunately I'm probably going to have to wait forever and it will still be opened lol.

    • B650M is B650 in microATX form factor.

      B650 X870E
      PCIe 5.0 slot No Yes
      PCIe 5.0 M.2 Optional Yes
      Max USB speed USB3.2 gen2x2 (20Gbps) [#1] USB4 (40Gbps)
      Chipset PCH B650*1 B650*2
      Max PCIe Lanes 36 44
      Max PCIe 5.0 Lanes 0 [#2] 24

      #1 - USB 3.2 gen 2x2 support is optional for B650
#2 - If PCIe 5.0 M.2 is supported, then 4 PCIe lanes from CPU is used

Note: the motherboard in this deal is B650E, which is different to B650. X870 (without E) is also different to X870. B650E does offer PCIe 5.0 lanes. If you don't need all 44 PCIe lanes, but want all the PCIe 5.0 lanes, then B650E is a good choice (though B650E doesn't require USB4).

  • wish there is B650E-E deal.. not -F…

    • Whats the difference?

      • I have needs for dual x8 pcie slots for two GPUs. For the -F version, it's one x16 PCIe and the second will be one x4 PCIe. But for most gaming users, they normally just have one GPU on the first PCIe slot, so it's not a issue.

        • B650E-E doesn't support x8x8 bifurcation as well. It only supports x16 or x8/x4/x4 where one x4 is PCIe and the other x4 is M.2. It doesn't support x8 for the second x16 slot even if you don't use that M.2.
Edit: All ASUS 600 series motherboards do not support x8/x8 mode except X670E Extreme

        • Ah yes thats fair enough, not an issue for me :)

Have had one for over a year.
Nice mobo, although first few firmwares were a bit iffy with 6,000MT RAM, and I can still get blue screens if I turn off memory training.

    • +1

Blue screen is almost always because of unstable RAM. 6000MT should never be a problem for AM5 CPU and mobo. It's your RAM chip or voltage issue. If blue screen happens only after long time gaming, it might because of overheating.

Always test the stability using TM5 and Run Memtest after overclocking the RAM

      • +1

It works fine if training is left on.

        • The motherboards can adjust the DRAM latancy settings and voltages within a range when training is on. That might be the reason

        • Do you have SK Hynix A-die or M-die RAM kit? SK Hynix based RAM kits have the least issue. Also, if you ever tweaked your memory settings based on some famous youTuber's videos, revert them back to factory default. If a youTuber told you to turn off memory context recall and tell you to alter a number of other settings, then chances are some of those settings caused memory context recall to not work properly (making memory training mandatory in each boot in order to avoid blue screen).

The line about refurb is right I got a motherboard recently (different motherboard) from Amazon DE and it came up saying CPU was changed when I first booted it up and the onboard NIC didn’t work. Luckily I caught it and sent it back.

    • I bought an ASUS TUF X670E WIFI once from Amazon US via AU. It had two seals on the same place. The outer seal is fine but the inner one was opened. Both of them seemed to be ASUS official seal. So I guess it was factory refurbished, or they just opened the box to update the BIOS and put on the "Ryzen 9000s Ready" label

      • Yeah I think it would make more sense that it was indeed just a BIOS update as unsuspecting customers placing in a 9000 series CPU wouldn't be able to get it to POST. These people would think they received a bricked motherboard and just return it as they simply can't just go into the store they purchased it and get technical support..

  • Bought it for the Gamble. Will record the unboxing 🤣.

  • Wish it had the QCode it should be a requirement tbh. You have to spend so much to get such a basic feature.

    • if they find a way to save $1 they will and buying a high end motherboard is stupid so they need something to actually put on it to make people buy it lol.

      • I'm not saying it's good but that's how they do business unfortunately. I wish it had it also

      • Absolutely, like for most of us who want a 7800X3D or 9800X3D.

        • 6 layer or 8 layer pcb it doesnt matter
        • VRM doesnt matter that much the X800X3D doesn't draw that much power.

As you step up you get better:
        - Rear IO (that’s fair).
        - PCIE lanes (also fair)
        - SATA ports (fair)

You can get the above with very afordable mitherboards across the range. You generally want more connectivity. Spend a little more and you get more as you go. Yet any of the features that are just purely QOL literal bells and whistles and prices sky rocket into oblivion.

From memory my Maximus 5 Formula was like $300 or $350 new or on sale. My Maximus 8 Hero was very reasonable as was my Crosshair 6 Hero. I bought 2 Gigabyte B550 and an X570 master for very similar money. You'd be hard pressed to buy equivalent for $600 used or double what they used to cost new 10 years ago.

    • Yeah, I originally ordered the -F but they ran out of stock so settled for the -E.
In the end I haven't really missed anything, saved a bit of cash.

      • But isn't the -e more expensive?

        • Yes, you're right - I got my F'ing E-F and my E'ing E-E mixed up.

  • +3

The deal is cactus and has been pulled now. Went from 2% claimed straight up to $411.

    • Do you think they are going to cancel the orders?

      • Hopefully you still get yours. Keep us updated once it arrives or if it gets cancelled.

  • I was looking at an ASRock B650 Steel Legend WiFi Ice for $309.. this or that??

    CPU: R 7 7800X3D
    GPU: 9070 XT Sapphire Pulse
    RAM: PNY Mako RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30
    PSU: TBD

    • Yeah that's good. I got the one In the deal but it's because it's a cheaper black b650e which is really rare. Most of the cheaper stuff is white lol but I don't really love white PCs.

      • the B650 steel legend is a "weird board"

it had PCI express 5.0 support on the M2 and GPU slot.. despite not being B650e board..

I suspects its pretty much a B650e board.. without being offically designated so..
        https://www.techspot.com/review/2861-amd-b650-motherboards-p…

its potentially the equilavent of a X870 board without the usb 4.0 support.

  • I had to cough up 400 for this motherboard a few months ago, but otherwise, it's been running great.

No issues using memory context restore with 6000 CL30 RAM and handles 9950X3D swimmingly.

My biggest problem with this board is the Q-Release system. Getting the graphics card out is fine (hence Q-"release"), but getting it in feels like it will break something every time. Don't know if I'm doing it wrong lol but honestly I would have preferred the classic pcie latch

    • Seemed fine to me, but have only needed to use it a couple of times.

  • I was waiting so long for another mobo deal to go with my 9700x and I missed out 😭

  • How come mobos don't come with optical/digital out anymore?
