TCL 75" C855 (2024) or LG 75" QNED86A (2025)?

Hi all,

Been thinking on buying the TCL 75" C855 TV but now I know of someone at Harvey Normal and they're have a staff 50% discount. First time ever for LG apparently.

Is the LG 75" QNED86A evo AI Mini LED UHD 4K Smart TV (2025) better than the TCL 75" C855 (2024)?

https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-75-inch-qned86a-evo-ai-mi…

I can probably get the LG 75" QNED86A for approx. $1500 after discount.

I know the TCL 75" C855 (2024) is being discontinued and a new model is coming very soon.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers

I personally hate WebOS so I'd go with the TCL. But $1500 for the LG seems like a good deal, especially since it seems the lowest the 75" C855 has gone is around $1900.

    • Which one is the better picture quality you think? Not an expert by any means.

      Thanks!

        • Display Technology: The TCL C855 uses Quantum Dot Mini-LED technology, offering superior brightness and contrast with full-array local dimming. The LG QNED86A, on the other hand, features QNED technology, which combines Quantum Dot and NanoCell for vibrant colors but relies on edge-lit backlighting, which may not match the contrast of the TCL.

        • Brightness and Dimming: The TCL C855 is known for its higher peak brightness (up to 3500 nits) and more dimming zones, making it better for HDR content and dark-room viewing. The LG QNED86A has decent brightness but may not perform as well in these areas.

        • Gaming Features: Both TVs support gaming features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and low input lag. However, the TCL C855 offers a 144Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for smoother gaming, while the LG QNED86A is capped at 120Hz.

        • Audio: The TCL C855 includes Dolby Atmos and an Onkyo sound system with a built-in subwoofer, providing a more immersive audio experience. The LG QNED86A also supports Dolby Atmos but may not match the TCL's built-in audio quality.

        • Price: The TCL C855 is often more competitively priced, offering excellent value for its features. The LG QNED86A might be slightly more expensive but comes with LG's reputation for quality and reliability.

If you're looking for better contrast, brightness, and gaming performance, the TCL C855 might be the better choice. If you prioritize brand reliability and vibrant color reproduction, the LG QNED86A could be a great option.

        • Have my upvote sir! Amazing stuff.

What would you personally pick if the TCL C855 is $2000 and the LG QNED86A is $1500?

          Thanks.

@kranoath: I'd go view them both in store and select the one I liked best…

            • @jv: Great answer. I'll do that. Thanks.

            • @jv: Never seen jv being so helpful! Their accounts been hacked!!

I picked up the a 75" C855 for, you'll hate me, $700 off Marketplace - guy was leaving the country and just wanted to offload everything.

Honestly stupid bright (up to 3000 nits), even in my well-lit room i only need the backlight at 60%.
Great HD and 4K performance (just turn on sports mode - increases panel refresh rate) and modify the settings from there. I personally love it and would take it over the LG. Didn't want to gamble with burn in etc on an OLED.

    Also has been discussed here

If you get the LG for $1500 you've done well currently $1,999 at HN's

    • Hello. Thats a great deal!

You linked the 2024 model? I'm talking about the new, just released 2025 model @ $2,999.00.

Ah gotchya, not sure about the differences though.

Go with whatever you think looks best.

My previous opinion was that TCL have everything wrapped up to $1500
        LG for everything OLED.

However that's started to change since TCL have started to be competitive in the top end.
now have a C745, and C855 and honestly wouldn't change them.

        • Got last TV a decade ago and jaw dropped seeing how much better and cheaper they are now. Something that would cost $10k is now closer to $3k.

          I've had a C755 for about 4 years and it's still going strong…

The OS is a bit slow, but I only use it with my nvidia shield so it works great…

@jv: Sorry, C755 was only released in 2024 JV

              @Drakesy: My mistake, C715

              • +1

@jv: Bought the better half the C815 that she runs, agreed, OS is a bit slow but the Picture quality is still terrific for the money.

    • guy was leaving the country and just wanted to offload everything.

Wish there was a way to get notifications when Marketplace posts say something to this effect. The best bargains are had when people just want things gone and don't care about what they get for it.

      $700 is a steal - grats.

      • They used to have a "just listed" section which was great for sniping. Now its a lot harder, have to set up specific keyword notifications
