Microsoft Office 2024 - Third Party Seller Dodgy?

Hi all,

I came across this third party seller after searching for Microsoft Office on Google. I wanted to purchase Office 2024 'Professional Plus (for 5 PC)' as a one time purchase rather than 365 which is a subscription. One of the top Google results was an online shop and I thought I'd give it a go for the price.

https://digital-license-shop.com/product/microsoft-office-20…

"Prices:
Windows – Professional Plus (for 5 PC) - AU$69.99
Mac OS – Home & Business (for 2 Mac) - AU$99.99
Mac OS – Home - AU$69.99
Included: 2024 versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, OneNote, Teams, including all future updates.
Compatibility: Windows 10, Windows 11
Number of installations: for 5 PCs
Duration: Lifetime product."

I received a link with a setup file, scanned it for viruses with Kaspersky and it came up clean, and then installed it on my device. It works fine so far and looks like it auto activated when I went into word without me needing to enter the activation code. Does anyone with more tech savviness know what has happened and if this is a reliable option? Or have I wasted $69.99.

Thanks!

You not only thought https://digital-license-shop.com would be legitimate, paid them $70, AND downloaded a random file from a link they sent you? Do you really not have any cybersecurity consciousness at all?

It's probably a volume license key, the same ones being sold for $5 elsewhere. Could work indefinitely, could work for a while then get blocked. Could be clean, could be a pre-activated cracked copy with an embedded keylogger. Who knows.

It's probably a volume license key

      Interestingly their FAQ says:

We buy Microsoft licenses in high volume from companies that no longer need them due to insolvency, cloud migration or disruption in use, thereby generating value from assets unused. https://digital-license-shop.com/about-us/?lang=en

    • Microsoft charges way less in poorer countries like Bangladesh. The same way people get cheap Netflix in Argentina or Turkey.

They charge more in Australia than in the USA, too.

    • I bought mine from http://totally-not-a-scam.com

Lol. Next you'll be telling us you purchased an S25 ultra for $1100 from some random in a park. FFS.

      I can relate

  • Is it April 1st already?

  • saveonit is where I usually get it. Though the bundle has changed to include AI and I kinda like AI so I guess I pay more next time.

  • I'm tempted.

I’ve had a free office for like 10 years.
There’s so many free tools to activate it and activate windows so there’s absolutely no reason to pay.

Unless you desperately need cloud storage which this doesn’t even have.

  • You could've used massgravel for free and also not risked downloading malware. Either way you'll have an activated product but both ways are still breaching the EULA.

Should have asked ozbargain BEFORE purchasing.
