Looking for 4K USB-C Monitor Recommendations: Work from Home

Seeking community insights on 4K monitors with USB-C connectivity under $350.

Must-Have Specifications:

  • 4K Resolution
  • USB-C Connectivity
  • IPS Panel (Preferred)

Currently considering Dell S2722QC and Lenovo N27P, but open to alternatives.
What other monitors would you recommend that meet these criteria and fit within this budget range?

Thanks in advance.

    S2722QC is the best bang for buck. I've purchased more than 10 for a work thing.

    • Long shot, but do know or able to check whether monitor's UBS hub powers down if monitor goes to sleep (host computer sleep -> monitor standby)?

      Big problem is any storage devices connected to the monitor's hib (USB sticks/HDDs/SSDs).

      Don't want to buy another monitor w the same issue (Lenovo N27p looking at you)

      • Just set PC to never go sleep

        • I'd rather not

          • @smartialarts: I'm gonna take a step back and ask, why do you want USB sticks/HDDs/SSDs to be powered and active when computer is asleep?

            • @CodeXD: Because if they are powered down without proper unmounting that's risk of data loss

              Host computer does not disconnect USB devices like so when entering sleep, so I am expecting external USB hubs to do the same thing.

                @smartialarts: You're over-thinking it.

                A computer only goes to sleep after a period of inactivity, or if you tell it to go to sleep. In either case there is plenty of time for any outstanding data to be written to any USB devices.

                USB storage devices do NOT need to be disconnected every time the computer goes to sleep. In fact you don't want them to be, because then they'd have to be reconnected every time the computer woke up.

                You're not going to find any product that does what you want.

                • @GordonD: You are missing the point.

                  It is plain and simple - whenever a monitor w usb hub enters sleep, the storage devices are disconnected, resulting in the error message being displayed.

                  Does not happen with the storage devices connected to the computer's internal or proper external usb hub.

                    @smartialarts:

                    resulting in the error message being displayed

                    What are these errors? There is also a windows power setting when to keep hard drive active, not sure if it applies to externally connected devices tho.

                    Sounds like what you're looking for is monitor with HDMI CEC

                    • @CodeXD: "You haven't disconnected your device properly blah blah" type of message.

                      I'd rather use just one USB cable for both host connection & video, instead of messing w HDMI, as that would defeat the purpose of having an integrated USB hub - may as well get a separate hub then.

                      But anyway, that reddit thread seems v specific to MSI mons, Lenovo doesn't have anything that advanced of the settings menu.

                • @GordonD: A little test, if you will.

                  Start copying a bunch of files to/from USB device, attached to the monitor hub.

                  Lock the computer, or otherwise turn off the screens (there is a setting to do that, ie turn off screens after say 1m of inactivity / upon lock screen).

                  Files are still being copied, remember, as the computer is not sleeping, just no video signal.

                  And a beautiful thing happens - as soon as the monitor enters the sleep (or wakes up from it, in case of the aforementioned Lenovo), the drives are kicked off the system.

                  If your monitor hub is not susceptible to this issue, I would like to know the model.

    By default, when the monitor enters standby mode due to the host computer sleeping, the USB downstream ports do lose power. To counter this the monitor offers a setting called USB-charging which controls the power supply to USB ports during standby. However, this option is only accessible when the USB upstream cable is disconnected, that is, you are using HDMI input. Once the upstream cable is connected, the setting becomes inaccessible, and the USB ports may power down during standby.

    You could try not putting your computer to sleep?
