Lightning + USB C Cable for Car Play and Android Auto

I bought a cable that I thought would solve all our problems until all iPhones in our life will upgrade to USB C: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CB6BM172?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_f…

But weirdly just the Lightning side works - the USB C bit doesnt even charge my phone.

Any recommendations for cables that will actually work? Also interested in just USB C to USB C as I have so many which are low quality but not enough that I can trust.

UGREEN/INUI/ANKER cables from amazon have served me well

I also nowadays just chuck the random cables that are bundled with stuff I buy since I never know the quality / power rating of them and you can't tell them apart without testing

  • All these cables are so much cheaper on aliexpress. I end up buying a bunch each time for futureproofing (read: family members keep losing their cables, don't ask)

In addition to brands listed by Shadowsfury above, I've found Essager and Baseus (and more recently I've had no issues with Toocki) also reliable.

I don't wire my phone into carplay, but here's an example of a similar cable to yours, from aliexpress:

I suggest returning your cable via Amazon support if it doesn't work as advertised.

    • It says in the Amazon product description:

(This USB C cable does not support media display.)

      • Do you mean the OP Amazon link? I think that's referring to use as a monitor daisychain cable, or as a laptop-to-monitor cable.

        It mentions CarPlay everywhere

        • I'm yet to see a dual headed cable support carplay/data transfer. Usually one or both outputs don't transfer data. For example the cable you linked doesn't (only usb-c works) from the reviews.

          • @DOGGYWOWWOW: oh ok good to know. yeah gotta read aliexpress listings, reviews before purchase

          • @DOGGYWOWWOW: That is interesting. Looks like I'd be better off getting two high quality cables of each variety.

            • @samyall: I just got a wireless car play/AA adaptor they are very cheap these days anyway.

              • @DOGGYWOWWOW: Yeah I saw that AliExpress deal a few days ago and I might grab one. I wanted to use a cable as our batteries are not holding charge like they once did but I do have a 12V charger so there are solutions.
