Best Kids’ Water Bottles?

My addlebrained pre-teen children keep losing or breaking their water bottles.

The cheap Decor ones forever on special for $5 at Woollies are rubbish, but I don’t want to spend $50 on Camelbaks for my pint-sized ingrates.

What’s a good compromise? Which brand of water bottle offers decent thermal properties at a reasonable price?

Metal (so it dents, not cracks), double walled.

The rest is up to you. Look at Kmart, or Coles/WW. Buy during a 50% off sale

I reuse soda bottles over and over. Doesn't matter if you lose it.

I reuse water bottles. I know they say not to, but it's just too convenient and they are readily recyclable. Some bottles are better than others, some are too thin and dent easily, others are made of stronger plastic and will last months.

I assumed they tell you not to because they want you to buy another soda / water.

        • I assume so too. When I refill them I'll rinse them out each time, put some water in, shake it up, pour it out, then top it up.

Depends if it’s heated. Left in the sun (like a kid using at lunchtime) they break down faster and leach more microplastics. If you’re keeping it in the fridge, it’s probably fine (no different to a new bottle for the most part), from what I understand.

      • The main reason is chemical leaching. Especially when you leave it in the hot sun in your car or something.

    This one:

    Pros:

    • indestructible
    • doesnt spill
    • good flow
    • reasonable price

    Cons:

    • lots at school needs labelling
    • some kids chew the spout

I can vouch for these, some reason they last where all others fail

      • Thanks. It looks solid enough. Does it keep water cool as well as a traditional double-walled metal bottle?

        • +1

          Nope, single wall

Nothing plastic. Stainless steel is best.

Oasis seconded. Keeps water warm or cold for several hours. Only suggestion is to avoid bottles with straws

  • try temu or search for insulated bottles, can find metal drink bottles for under $10

    • I'd advise against getting an unknown branded water bottle from temu, I've read that the double layer insulation process involves sealing within the two using lead. That's for all products. Wouldn't want to run the risk of it being done poorly, leeching into your water.

      • they are the same bottles as all the Australian stores are selling.

        • I don't disagree, however if there are any corners to cut, or QA to skip, you can bet your sweet bippy they'll be doing that
