This is what happens when a lounge comes in multiple parts and then they sell out of one part, they end up putting the rest on for next to nothing because you can't really make the whole lounge out of it, it's only useful for people who are keen to do some major modifications

I don't think so. Friheten sofa bed still being sold at non-discounted prices on the Ikea website. The same part (i.e. chaise lounge for corner sofa bed) is still available for $249 but with a different product code. Perhaps redesigned or discontinued colour.
Ah they frequently change the colours/materials so even though they can sell replacement covers for certain units, it can be hard to match them down the line.
