Only a deal if you are a fan of physical media and fan of the franchise. Cheapest I have seen so far.

Yes I know you can stream it, but I personally prefer to own movies that I like or want, and I want the best quality sound and vision for my AV system.

The 4K is definitely region free but no idea if the std blu ray in this is region free though.

Waiting for the "why buy physical media" comments…….

    • +1

How about a "this film is terrible" comment instead ?

      • Haha, I have yet to watch it so can't comment, lol.

      • Did you go to the cinemas to watch this?

        • Unfortunately Yes

      • +3

It's not bad. Third best in the franchise imo

      • +8

        I loved it.
Felt like a proper throw-back to the OG Alien/s even down to the set design, rather than the generic "sci-fi" look of Covenant and such.

Brb, going to play Isolation now.

        • Isolation is a great game.
          The movie is not bad.

      • I saw it in the cinema and felt it wasn’t much good too. There were too many unexplained or really weird improbable things going on to make the plot conceivable. And the story had lots of copy and paste plots/sequences from other Alien movies. I Was let down a bit by it. Not the worst of the bunch though, probably.

      • It wasn’t great but good enough to watch

I’m waiting for $30, it’ll get there eventually.

    • +1

I have been holding out too, but figured at this price it was worth it,

      Waiting for B1G1F - 2 for $40

      • +1

It’s not available in Australia so you’ll be waiting a while at JB

        • +1

And this is the reason I will never, ever subscribe to Disney.

I would rather import the 3 or 4 movies a year worth watching or buying from them. It is just a cheaper way to watch what I want, whenever I want for the rest of dwindling years. lol.

Until they start releasing movies on physical media again in Australia, they can go f%$! themselves and their woke agenda.

          • @revheadgl: sorry whut..?

            • @0jay: Replying to the comment above mine that you cannot buy it as an Australian physical media release.

And I am old cynical and grumpy, lol.

              • +1

@revheadgl: I will wait for the UK 4K to go on sale.

                • @congo: I reckon wait a few months and you will get it under $30. I thought at $38 it was good enough for me to buy it though.

              • @revheadgl: how's it woke tho?

                  • @revheadgl: funny, they've got some shadowy past including some pretty racist material and unsubstantiated but plausible stories of walt donating to the nazi party.

there's a principle in business whereby the broadest market lies where people aspire to be generally good humans. Disney's made a ton of money pitching to that market.

It's a shame y feel judged by that. I can see how you might feel that way but it's not really rational imo

                      • +1

                        @revheadgl:

And at the end of the day, f@#k Disney and every other company that is DEI. We can make our own minds up about how we treat people.

How does it actually impact you though? What’s now ruined in your life?

                        • +1

@Randolph Duke: Apologies to you and everyone else for the rant, was in a bad place and should have kept my comments to myself. No idea what caused or i let myself be triggered.

Decided to delete them as they were not helpful in any way, nor relevant to the post.

  • It's on Prime Video if you already are a Prime member. Watched it the other day, it's a good two-hour killer but slightly on a disappointment side for me.

    • As I commented, I have yet to watch it but the general consensus from my friends that have would agree with you.

What I really want to happen is for Ridley Scott to do a 3rd prequel that ties into the original movie. Probably not likely to happen unfortunately. If it does, it will have to be soon, as Ridley is no spring chicken, lol.

    • Everything after the original Alien has been a disappointment for me.

      • I feel a bit different about them than you do. I like all of them, some more than others though.

        For what my insignificant opinion is worth, not yet having seen Romulus, my order would be;

        Alien,
        Aliens,
Covenant, but wavering between Covenant and Aliens for 2nd place.
        Prometheus,
        Alien 3,
        Resurrection.

And the Alien v Predator movies a very distant 6th.

      • +2

        I surprisingly really enjoyed Prometheus

    • Not free on Prime Video streaming.

      • But nobody says it's free though.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Alien - Romulus, but I found Goodfellas 4K HDR… which is a must for any collection!

Great movie, haven't watched in years. I thought I had it, but just checked and I don't. Added to list of movies to buy. Thanks for the reminder:)

Is this cut with the janky CGI/animatronic Ian Holm head, or the fixed one?

    EDIT:

For the "Alien: Romulus" home release (4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital), director Fede Alvarez addressed fan concerns about the CGI used to depict Ian Holm's character, Rook, by re-working the effects to rely more on practical effects and less on digital manipulation, resulting in a more believable visual.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    The Problem:
During the initial theatrical release, some viewers found the CGI used for Rook, the character with the likeness of the late Ian Holm, to be unconvincing.
    The Solution:
Alvarez, in collaboration with the studio, secured additional time and resources to revisit and improve the CGI for the home release.
    The Improvement:
The team leaned more heavily on practical effects, including an animatronic head created by Shane Mahan, which was based on a head cast from "Lord of the Rings".
    The process:
The team used a mix of practical and digital techniques, but for the home release, they reverted to using the animatronic head more often, resulting in a more believable visual.
    Alvarez's Perspective:
Alvarez stated that he wasn't 100% happy with the original CGI and that the home release allowed them to "fix it" and "make it better".
    Fan Feedback:
While the improved CGI is an improvement, some fans still find the character's appearance to be somewhat uncanny.

  • I quite enjoyed this one. There was some good horror elements, the photography and composition was good, and some characters absolutely got their deserved comeuppance.

As a fan of Alien and Aliens I didn't like Romulus. It seemed a slavish fan project more interested in its homages and references than in its own cohesion and coherence. I expected better of Fede given his discipline and boldness in his Evil Dead entry in ignoring it's predecessors.

I'm just glad they contiune to make Alien films - and Terminator, Predator, Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc. for that matter.

Do they live up to the originals?

    Hell no!

Are they still entertaining, with iconic characters and genre defining concepts, premises and plotlines continually revisited?

    Hell yes!

And, especially when considered in isolation, are they better than 90% of the dross pumped out in theatres and via streaming services today?

    Hell yes.

    Oh, hell yes.

    • I like the predictor film set in current times where they find the temple under the ice. Of course the original film is legendary
