Fitbit Shutting down Google Assistant on Versa 3 and Sense

Got an email from fitbit saying that Versa 3 and Sense users will soon no longer have access to Google Assistant!

Held out for the longest time as a Versa 3 user, didn't upgrade to the Sense 2 because it didn't have Google Assistant (though it did have Alexa). We have many home integrations and automations set up with assistant.

Regardless of which previous model device we have, it now looks like we're going to lose Assistant either way!

I wonder if we can take our old devices back to where we got them from for a refund, if they are no longer fit for purpose. 🤔

You are receiving this email to let you know about an upcoming change to your Fitbit Sense and/or Versa 3.

Over the next few weeks we will be progressively phasing out Google Assistant on your Fitbit device. You can learn more about this process here. This change means that Google Assistant voice control for activities will no longer be available on your Fitbit device.

We understand that changes can be disruptive, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to deliver the best possible Fitbit experience. We remain committed to continuously improving your Fitbit app and developing exciting new features.

If you’d like to learn more about using other voice assistants on your Fitbit device, please visit our helpful guide here. Fitbit died when Google took it over. Providing instructions on how to delete your Fitbit account confirms that.

  • How can they be

progressively phasing out Google Assistant on your Fitbit device

While in the same message say

"Lets take away a critical feature, but dont worry we are improving your experience". What a load. Just be honest and rip the bandaid off!

    • Yeah same as apple, saying no charger to support environmental cause but then selling them separately at high price

      • I think that actually makes sense. by not packaging it, those that don't need it wont be forced to have another one they wont use. Whether they are double dipping on the price thats also a possibility however.

Where as with fitbit its a clear contridiction of X action (remove key feature) clearly violates Y objective (continuously improving).

  • Luckily I did research and saw all the features google removed from fit it since they took over and decided to buy garmin 6 months ago.

  • I continuously heard so many bad things about fitbit, like band get damaged after few months or weeks but people keep buying them. Weird

    • This is true but their customer support was good and would replace the band or the device

  • I wonder if we can take our old devices back to where we got them from for a refund, if they are no longer fit for purpose.

You can try, but if they say no you'll probably need to take them to court.

Worth a shot, but it also depends how old it is. If you bought it 6 months ago I definitely would. If you bought it 4 years ago, they'll probably argue it still works and there's no guarantee a service will last forever.

    • Sounds like too much trouble already. Fitbit app has been good and it has accumulated years of data. Used to have numerous issues with the charge, ionic, versa 1, versa 3, but they were always good with it and replaced/rectified the issue. Shame that it looks like Fitbit is coming to an end.

  • Sole reason I bought a Fitbit Sense was for Google Assistant. I’m an Apple device
wheelhouse tied with a Google smart ecosystem.

Anyone know if Apple Watch can control Google smart devices yet?
