Shokz Open Ear Bone Conduction Headphones: Run Pro 2/Mini/Comm2 $238.50, Swim Pro $220.50 & More Delivered @ Retravision

251

I've been searching for deals on the Shokz open-ear bone conduction headphones for a few weeks now and came across this Retravision sale this morning during my daily search. RetraFrenzy Sale extra 10% off in cart. Products will ship directly from Shokz. I have enquired about whether the 30 day return and refund policy is still valid through Retravision as it is when buying direct from Shokz, and will update if I get a reply.

Update 1:55pm AEDT Retravision customer service replied with "The 30 day return policy for worn goods is exclusive to Shokz so you would need to purchase directly through them to be eligible for this. If purchased from us our normal terms of return applies which we are not able to accept return of goods that has been worn."

This isn't a brand I've owned before, however testing the OpenRun Pro 2 in-store it seems to tick my boxes, though it would have been better if there was a mini version to try.

Recently bought the OpenComm 2 UC for work, bloody love them! Pretty decent price.

I'm an OpenRun Pro 2 convert. I use them more than any other headphones / earbuds now.

Retravision wtf, this place still exists

I have some cheap ones and they're great, highly recommended. Very comfortable, can wear for long periods, and still hear what's going on. Not great in windy conditions, but apart from that they're brilliant.

    • +1

Yeah, I've been using the $20(ISH) pretend Xiaomi ones for the past month and they have been surprisingly good. Microphones in those ones are utterly useless so no good for hand free though.

      • +2

        Got a link?
Might get a cheapie but recommended intro-pair to give the general tech and fit a go.

      • +1

        send link

      • have you try shokz? i bought run pro 1 but it was very uncomfortable to wear them. the "subtle" vibration of the speeker scrach the skin behind my left ear. I had to sell it. Not sure this "pretend" Xiaomi (what do you mean by pretend? is it really from Xiaomi) will cause the same problem? the price is good.

        • From minimal research they would appear not to be actually made by Xiaomi, logo added to them to add some pseudo legitimacy by whatever company made them.

I usually wear them for 4 hours at a time and had no issues…

  • Got OG openrun pro and I was always skeptical but it’s great for gym (I mean, it’s what it’s designed for) - was using wh1000xm5 but too sweaty and paranoid of breaking them (either via sweat or whatever)

  • Any idea how much better these are than the aliexpress cheapies? I'm really enjoying my $30 pair in the pool and running (it does bluetooth and has in-built storage)

    • +2

I had $10 Xiaomi one's before buying the OpenRun Pro 2's. They aren't that much better.I would say they are clearer, slightly louder and more comfortable. Definitely not 20x better but the Xiaomi ones stopped charging after a couple of times.

    Would Jb price match?

    • +3

Yes, they do. I just did through online chat.

      • perfect , thanks for confirming

Another alternative that might be better atm for some is through 99 Bikes who have a sale on shokz
    Example
The Open Run Pro 2 are $277. https://www.99bikes.com.au/shokz-openrun-pro-2-black
99 bikes also have spend and save on atm, spend $300 and save $30, spend $500 and save $50.
For those lucky enough to get the AMEX offer spend $400 get $80 back

Also keep in mind 99Bikes also do 5% pricebeat, which has brought it down to 226 for me :)

  • The OpenSwim Pro’s are about $200 through JB Hi-Fi Commercial if you have access. I haven’t checked, but I imagine the runs are substantially cheaper too

    • Just checked:

      OpenSwim Pro - $216
Can’t see OpenRun Pro’s available, but OpenRuns are $150

Warning: Mine developed "the rattle" in the left transducer outside of the 24 month warranty period. I contacted Shokz about it and they blew me off. $290 pair of headphones too. They were nice while they we fully functional.

    • +3

thats pretty shit , but i had a similar experience with sony fwiw…

    • +4

I went through 3 pairs of openshokz in recent years, first pair died ~6mo and was replaced for free, next one was dead just 3mo after warranty ended, and last one is not fully dead yet, but rubber that cover volume buttons teared off, so it's no longer sweat-proof and you need to press buttons with fingernails. And if you look at reddit, lots of people have issues just outside of warranty period.

I switched to Suunto Sonic, functionally it's on par with Openrun Pro, but costs $100 less, we'll see if they last 2 years.

      • The aliexpress options for $16 seem like the way to go. Even if it only lasts six months, at 1/18th of the price I'd still only be ahead by ~$220 if I'd bought four. Plus I gave shokz the option to goodwill replace them and they said no. I doubt shokz is paying that much for production given what aliXP is pumping them out for.

        • I have both. As per a comment elsewhere here, the Shokz feels sturdier, is louder, possibly more comfortable, mic is functional.

If you need the mic, I wouldnt consider the Ali ones. It is v v bad.

And it's also not as loud… which may or may not be important.

    • Did you refer them to ACL?

      • I mentioned it in the initial email.

    • mm I've had a few of these, starting from when these were called Trekz Air and the company was still called Aftershokz back in 2018. Since then i've had the Aeropex in 2021, Openrun Pro in 2023, and the OpenRun Pro 2 in late 2024. Used these daily for commuting so heavily used in all weather conditions too.

Never had an issue with any of them though. Think you've gotten unlucky with a lemon. if you dont think its reasonable, consider claiming your rights under the ACL, even mentioning it usually leads the business to think twice about blowing people off

      • I did mention ACL in the email, they still blew me off. I had the Aeropex model.

Another open run pro 2 convert. Wearing them right now. They seem to sit on my head most of the day at work whether I'm listening to them or not 😅.

I'll likely grab the swims when they come on a decent sale, tried a mates and it's bloody amazing how clear they are in the water.

  • +1

Thanks so much for this! Just bought the pro 2 orange.

  • Does anyone have the swim pro and can comment on using it? If I swim in a 50m pool, would it still connect to my phone fi its sitting on the side?

    • +3

The swim ones have built in memory to play songs offline when you’re in the pool, so no BT required.
The better ones have both BT and memory to handle both online and offline listening

      • Thanks I’ll definitely have to give it a shot! I remember using the base one and thought it was cool and nice to use.

    • +3

bluetooth does not work properly under water. open swim has storage onboard to use it as standalone device

      • In a world where we stream all our music… how does one usually have downloaded music which can be transferred onto the onboard storage?

        • Podcasts - I copy 2 or 3 long form (30+ minute) podcasts from my phone to the openswims and that usually does me for a weeks worth of laps. I've caught up on a lot of podcasts as a result of buying these.

  • Worth noting Suunto's Aqua Light just came out which seem to compete heavily with the Swim Pro for $199.

    • they look identical…

      • Yep. Problem is no reviews yet.

  • anyone have any feedback re: mini vs standard? comments on reddit are saying they have big heads but still fit mini lol

    • They have instructions to measure your noggin here:
      https://shokz.com.au/blogs/news/openrun-vs-openrun-mini-find…

    • +1

I had half my family members try on my mini's… they ALL have freakishly big noggins. All fit, and fit comfortably! My brother can barely fit usual hats, just a big head and has now converted to the mini.
The downward angle the headphones sit at, really helps them to fit any size head. If you really want to try them, go to a 99 Bikes. The mini's are so much more secure feeling and don't have much overhang. I would 100000% recommend.

  • I purchased these and then the very next day i purchased a few $20-25 ones from aliexpress. I dont even use my shokz anymore, the aliexpress ones (lenovo and xiaomi) work just as good.
In hindsight i pretty much bought it because i wasn't aware other companies made similar bone earphones (while browsing harvey norman).

  • FYI discount stacks with the usual 5% off for RAC WA members.

  • this deal came at the right time. thankyou!
