QLD TMR, Need to Pre Inspect Car??

Pre-registration inspection
You must take the vehicle with you because it may need to be inspected before it can be registered.

Light motor vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4.5t or less and motorcycles may require a pre-registration inspection to confirm the vehicle’s identity.

If I get a safety certificate from RACQ… do I really need to bring the car to the TMR..? for new rego.. ? buying a used car with rego taken off.. and getting the safety certificate myself..

Thanks

  • you need RWC certificate that's it any good workshop can do it

No idea where you are getting that from. The only things I've had inspections on have been trailers.

Yeah it says that so I took my car the one time I had to do this. They didn't look at it. May as well try without it

    • thanks… at least I read that same.

      • To do that I had to get 1 day rego from TMR

SA required my then near new car to be available for inspection not to ensure that it was roadworthy, but to verify its identity to ensure it wasn't a stolen car.

If they're telling you to have it there in case, and you don't, you just produce a certificate of roadworthiness, its just going to raise suspicion.

I have had them come out and check engine number etc before. But that was twenty years ago. Probably still left on the website but they haven't bothered for years. But they could.

This is such a hassle… buying a no rego car.. without RWC…., seller thinks the new owner will run tolls fines and speeding tickets.. damn..

    • +1

Check the current rules but you used to be allowed to drive to get rwc and to tmr afterwards without rego. May need day permit instead these days but not too expensive .Or home visit safety cert. Lots of options. Just remember to get insurance before driving on the road, registered or not it can, and should be insured.

Mate I would walk away. That sounds like BS, seller is probably hiding issues with the car hence no RWC.

Unless you know what you are doing AND you are getting a big discount for no RWC or rego, walk away and find another car.

But then we will miss out on the future post about buying an unroadworthy car.

    • Hassle and risk: cost of getting the car RWC compliant is on you. Hope you got an absolute bargain?

    • What is this vehicle?

I have registered many cars, bikes, boats and trailers, and have only had trailers inspected as they need to know the dimensions. Most TMR places don't even have inspection stations.

  • w/o RWC it is a lemon, a squeezed dry lemon, or elon!

    Is it a Camry?

      corolla. 1 owner. 90,000kms.

Form says: bring your documents and vehicle to a transport and motoring customer service centre. If you're planning not to bring the vehicle I'd call them to confirm… unless you don't care about being turned around and asked to come back at another time with your vehicle?

You must take the vehicle with you because it may need to be inspected

This means if you take your vehicle they won't inspect it, but if you don't take your vehicle they will want to inspect it.

This really sucks if I do get the vehicle…, need to arrange insurance.. etc.. 2 hour parking limit…

      This is such a hassle…
      This really sucks…

Naaaaaw… if this is the hardest thing you have to deal with in your life, then I hope for your sake that nothing actually difficult happens.

If it is too much hassle, don’t buy it. Go to a dealer and buy a car off them. FFS.

      • It must be a ripper deal

        corolla. 1 owner. 90,000kms.

        seems username ilove checks out.

  • buying a used car with rego taken off.. and getting the safety certificate myself..

In short: an un-registered (no rego) car needs a safety certificate (pink slip) from an approved provider to obtain new QLD registration plates. Take the paperwork to TMR.

Not sure if RACQ is a certificated provider. Probably.
