Dropping by the minute? lol
There have been PLENTY of first day specials for games lately. You don't need to try and use everything to justify your pre conceived notion.
I'm sure odyssey and origins had similar deals but can't search back that far
Yeah I'm not sure why everyone is rooting for this game and Ubisoft to fail, leading to further consolidation of the industry.
I just ordered this for click and collect as worst case and I bounce off the game in a week or two, I can always put it towards a trade-in for a future title with the 2-for-1 deal that goes around often enough. The game is $110 AUD on the PS store so this is objectively a good deal for a release date title.
Playstation store has always charged over $100 for games that are as low as $60 in brick-and-mortar stores. Always. Their store is deliberately overpriced and not a good reflection of actual game prices in Australia.
@brrshhh: The PSN, XBL, Nintendo, Steam, and so on, stores are full RRP. Big W, JB, etc. can do sales for less than RRP. There is various little agreements and things in place that stipulate the digital stores must charge full RRP, but even if there wasn't, think about it, aside from the physical die hards, if digital was cheaper on release day, many people would choose it. If digital becomes too attractive of a proposition, then the retail partners won't bother to stock your stuff, then you lose the physical presence which is essential because 9 out of 10 game console sales aren't the Hardcore GamerTM, it's soccer mom and grandma and the cool uncles of the world looking for something to buy little Johnny for his birthday. If that happens, the whole bloody system falls apart.
So sure, I'd prefer cheaper day one digital games too, but from literally every perspective other than the wallet of the consumer, it just isn't practical.

It’s because Ubisoft has been making the same fundamental Far Cry without differentiating too much between their open-world games. Frontiers of Pandora actually stood out more than their usual games, despite it borrowing heavily from Far Cry in typical Ubisoft fashion. Mirage was decently-received, although a lot of the criticism can be attributed to making the same game without the love, care and attention that other studios give their franchises (that’s not to say they don’t). The latest PoP game was EXTREMELY well-received by switch genres to a Metroidvania with the style and flair of late 2010s early 2020s animation.
And you’re worried about consolidation of the industry? Veterans of AAA studios are leaving left and right to start their own game-dev studios or join smaller ones. If anything, American AAA is going to fall to indies, AAs, and East Asian studios. On a side note, AAA game devs and studios have to accept this truth: “gamers” are white, cisgender, racist, sexist, borderline-MAGA and male PoS. Gamergate runs too deep now and there’s a “gamer” in the White House, so if you want your games to be bought by them, you have to cater to their interests, even if it’s morally reprehensible to you or damages your brand. Gamers will happily buy a Chinese game over an American game if it’s good or it appeals to the male fantasy, despite MAGA saying “China bad”.
Either that, or the White House will make sure your games cater to these toxic gamers’ values.“gamers” are white, cisgender, racist, sexist, borderline-MAGA and male PoS.
Interesting. That is something I had somehow sensed just from watching YouTube gaming videos and reviews. Although I also suspect a significant proportion of gamers are 12-16 year old nerds. I gave up on games when I was 16 years old, and don't regret it. It resulted in me exploring a lot of literature, history and science by being addicted to books for 20 years. Just starting to get back into gaming now, but only a few hours a week. The hours spent by serious gamers is insane, literally tens of thousands of hours of their lives just staring at a screen pressing a button to shoot imaginary things or upgrade imaginary weapons.
@ForkSnorter: Of course what I meant by “gamers” are the gamers that are really just attention seekers and don’t give a shit about games except for when it has progressive values in them.
What these “gamers” say can often be life or death for the game studios and publishers, and even more so if Donny wants to raid them for “DEI”, which is code for “We want white men in charge again”.
Now, the reasoning for “gamers” turning out this way is complex, but one theory suggests that video games were something that the “outcast nerds”, who often were straight males, engaged in, and now that gaming as an industry has blown up to the extent it has, suddenly their high-school enemies want to get in on the crazy and push the nerds out of one of their few safe spaces they had. Thus, they lash out at other minorities trying to “encroach on their space”, which culminates in Gamergate and the eventual rise of right-wing populism.
Of course, that’s just one area, and they are a minority among gamers as a whole; however, they do command the discourse surrounding video games, and thus they can make any video game fail if it fails to push conservative values that might get these nerds laid.@FujinShu: Japanese don't seem too happy about the new AC

What is a "game like this?". I watched some gameplay on YouTube. Graphics look good, fighting mechanics look fairly sophisticated.
Huge issues - neither playable character is a Japanese man.
I don't get why that is such a big deal. One character is Japanese. The other isn't. Do games have to follow a particular format? Surely breaking with stereotypes is a good thing sometimes.
@ForkSnorter: That’s kinda not enough nowadays.
Sure, graphics look good and it has decently sophisticated fighting mechanics, but it also has a 20-30 hour runtime, which is padded out by a shallow gameplay loop.
Yes, there are other, worse games that do this or have even shallower loops, but this is a literal AAA-sized team with 4,000 employees in Montreal and 600 in Quebec, and they can’t make a game as engaging as even a 60-man studio. They can do SOOOO much more if they traded in the team size for more time, but I suppose a yearly Assassin’s Creed is a requirement nowadays.@ForkSnorter: Massive disrespect to another culture while claiming to be historically accurate, its not just small things too it has even gotten the attention of the Japanese government. They should also leave politics out of the game, worse is they start showing those stuff over 2 hours in the game so you can't even claim a refund.
@filmer: Some of the marketing material showed the infamous half broken Shinto gates.
These are a famously negative association with the atomic bombs dropped during WW2 where a photo was taken of a half Shinto gate in the aftermath being heavily symbolic of the end of Japanese safety and stability.
@viper8548: I think this not a huge deal. It is simply a game. One politician complained about a shrine being wrecked in the game, and consequently Ubisoft has made modifications to the game.
Games price dropping like ubi's stock :)
Sacre bleu!
This game will flop harder than concord lol tbh i wouldn’t even want it for free after all the things ubisoft has done
Just to give some context, i’m a massive AC fan since AC1 and have owned every game up until this one. Ubisoft has overdone it with this one.
For those wondering how it came to this, this is the team that made shadows
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GmamSS_WUAEjU-U.jpg:largeHoly shit you are genuinely dense.
It would take two minutes of searching to see that this is false.Use your brain instead of boarding pathetic grifter trains.
Are we really going to have 2-3 posts every day for each incremental $1 price drop on this mid game for the next 3 months. Boring
Are you old enough to be on the internet?
Yes
Are you ok? Yes, your mum gave me all the permission I need thanks.
Yep I will wait for it to be free on Game Pass Ultimate. DEI will never stop me from buying a game, but the last few AC games have been… meh
Black person = DEI?
I haven't kept up with what I meant to be outraged about this week, Can someone enlighten me
You couldve googled it in the time it took you to make that comment.
If the people from the country it is based in arent happy then you know Ubisoft has lost the plot.
Like much of the world, those not happy with this are political or youtube grifters rather than your average gamer.
The ironic thing is that the DEI of the recent AC games is that the execs forced the devs to make the lead of Origins a Bayek instead Aya and have male playable options for Odyssey and Valhalla but the losers who cry DEI/woke like yourself don't want to talk about that.
Yes, we hate Gerry. $74 at Harvey Norman. FYI for price match.
ubisoft wants to cash in on the success of Ghost Of Tsushima.
haha . google the game. 34% liked this video game
If you are going to buy the game, get the disc version so you can give to mates you do not like.
34% of who? The game only came out today, currently has a very positive rating on Steam, and an 81 on both Metacritic and Opencritic.
You've been watching too much Asmondgold.
I never knew OzBargain was such a cesspool. You're getting negged for a legitimate reply.
It's not just ozbargain, it's most of the internet these days.
Will be $10 in no time. HODL
$25 in 3 weeks.
Watched some gameplay.
Looked shit.
Cheers.
lol just watched YouTube this game is so disrespectful and the 🏳️🌈 is just way too much 😂
mods are heavily watching this thread lul
lets practice tolerance and not be too mean to the poor souls who buy this thinking it's a bargain
lol
good deal. thanks
its a crap game made by people who just wanna make a quick buck.. skipping…
First ac game I have zero interest in getting. Wouldn’t even pay $25 for this propaganda piece. Bring back AC Origins.
I don't understand the extreme hate for Ubisoft games. Recently I played God of War Agnorak and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Maybe not much in common other than they have a viking theme and are 3rd person action RPG/adventure.
GoW Agnorak may have better reviews, but I much prefer AC Valhalla. Story and acting are lacking, but the open-world, freedom to do what you want approach makes it so much more fun and interesting. Sophisticated fighting, absolutely beautiful scenery. And it is interesting that you have to think up stealth and fighting strategies when you are taking on 20 or 30 men in a hostile environment.
With GoW Agnorak, you pretty much have no freedom of choice. It is a 100% pre-controlled game, you are basically following a preset trail in the snow, you cannot deviate from the set path, you just have to do everything in order that the developers have told you to do. The game has already been played for you, you just sit there and press the buttons at the right time like a well-behaved little boy. Absolutely hate this gaming format.
Sure, why not?
I have such a backlog, I don't make time for mediocre games anymore.
Dropping by the minute…
I'll wait till next week when it's $7.10 or free like Dragonage: Failguard became shortly after it's flop.
