Cynar is an Italian bitter apéritif of the amaro variety. It is made from 13 herbs and plants, predominant among which is the artichoke (Cynara scolymus), from which the drink derives its name. Cynar is dark brown and has a bittersweet flavor, and its strength is 16.5% alc/vol. It was launched in Italy in 1952.

  • Damn - missed this one :(

    • I usually buy it via DoorDash with some alcohol discounts. Less than $40 delivered in my area (I have FirstChoice and Dan's nearby)

  • Apologies all, must have been a fluke. Showing a ridiculous $93.50 now.

I really love Averna. It's just 9€ in Spain.

Everytime I go I just drink Averna everyday lol

  • Any good cocktails with this stuff?

Is this an equivalent to sweet vermouth - punt e mes, antica formula?

    • A bit like Punt e Mes, maybe less sweet?

For me it's closest to Zucca Rabarbaro. It's possibly slightly stronger and more savoury than Zucca. Whereas Zucca a bit more fruity in comparison with Cynar.

  • Blast missed it… love to try it!
