Citizen Fugu NY0131-81X Men's Watch $299 Delivered @ Starbuy

300

I'm amazed this hasn't been posted today already. An ATL of $299 for not just one of the awesome Citizen Fugus, but for the green one which is the best colourway.

They normally only drop to mid-to-high-$300s. Under $300 is a steal and there is no excuse not to add a Fugu to your collection.
And for good measure, grab a little extra $25 discount with an email signup for new buyers or cough a new email.

The specs:

Crystal/Lens - Sapphire
Diameter - 44mm but doesn't feel or appear that big.
Lug width - 20mm
Case Thickness - 13.1mm
Automatic Movement - Caliber 8204, Self winding, Hand winding & Hacking
Screw Down Crown
Stainless Steel Bracelet with solid end links (but sadly just a pressed clasp)

    44mm is a big boy

    • -2

Not really, it's pretty standard for a dive watch.

    • Not too big for men's wrist. I have 43.5 mm Citizen watch and 46 mm smartwatch.

    • Yes it's a pretty old-school size, they also try and hide the case thickness with a recessed case back.

I prefer the eco-drive models, still 44mm but thinner, lighter and sit flush on the arm. Setting day and date on autos is also pretty tedious but ok if it's your one watch and not in a rotation.

Best to try on but probably fine if you have big arms.

  • Gorgeous!

    • And all gone when I've looked this morning. That's another 25-odd happy Fugu owners out there.

    Great price

    Doesn’t speak to me personally

    • +1

It's like an SD1970, but without the ceramic bezel and 4x the price.

I own both & the build quality & time keeping is definitely better on the Citizen but lume is better on the Steeldive.

The Steeldive isn't 3 times worse though, far from it. So if you don't care about brand names it's a no brainer.

        • Yeah, SD1970 is great watch, but time keeping could be better :(
It's like ~5 minutes difference in just a week. Not sure if it's considered to be "normal"

          • @Astaltar: Fast or slow?

It's probably just out of spec but not by much.

            • @MS Paint: Fast is more frustrating.

              • @sam buster: Fast is the best because you just pull out the crown for (insert time required here in seconds) to hack the time then push it back in and screw down at the correct time. Too easy.

                • @MS Paint: Ah, yes, fair play - no winding required. I guess it depends how much out it is.

          • @Astaltar: My SD1970 is slow by about a minute per week. I'm ok with that.

Edit: NH35 movement is rated to -20~+40 seconds per day. It seems yours may be out of spec.

            • @flagger:

My SD1970 is slow by about a minute per week.

              Well, that's reasonable.

It seems yours may be out of spec.

I guess I am the lucky one :D
Anything I can do with that?

      • Quite different style but yeah you could pick up a SD 1970 for $80-90 right now and be quite happy I'd say. They don't feel as big either (although both big divers).
The lug to lug on the Willard's (and copies/homages) is very good.

    • +1

Same. Cracking price, savings between $29 or $69 compared to previous deals, but I dont get the appeal. IMO the recent promaster divers in mustard and orange were better deals at $200 whilst not sapphire. I purchased both.

Beautiful watch. Bought one a while ago for a fair bit more, no regrets

  • I wish I could buy this ☹️

  • +1

Pretty ugly IMHO. The green + green face against silver looks sort of weak somehow.

    • +1

No it's great. You are allowed to have an opinion but They wouldn't sell it if it was ugly

      • +1

Isnt that why its heavily discounted?

        • Good point. I was trying to be funny lol

      • Yes, makes sense, this is why no ugly product has ever been sold.

        • Lol

    • I was on the fence about this deal but found a Youtube review(youtu.be) that shows the colour a bit better. It actually almost looks back until you get it at a certain angle.
Convinced me to pull the trigger.

      • +1

Interesting - looks totally different to the pics though. Still not a huge fan but looks a lot nicer in that video.

    Own this, it's fantastic!

  • Where did you find the details on the extra $25 off?

    • It's for new users, often sent a day later after signup or at least a few hours later, definitely not instant. Typically offered via a popup. Try incognito or clear your cache.

    • I used Microsoft Edge and found a $25 off coupon there.

Great price. if only 40mm for my bitch sized wrists.

    • I have the Batman colourway and fairly slim wrists but it doesn’t wear like a 44mm watch at all. Maybe check one out in a store first?

  • It's a beauty, but it would look like I've strapped an alarm clock to my wrist. Too big for me but I dig the colourway.

    • +1

      Wear it with confidence

      • +1

Disappointed that the Simpsons fugu reference hasn't made it into this thread yet.

Edit: nevermind I missed the link above. FFS.

    • +1

      Flavour Flav(hollywoodlife.com) would probably disagree.

  • Lol that colour is a far cry from how it looks in reality the photo is not attractive but the colour is not my fav and I'm looking for a nice green watch.. just that Japanese don't do nice green watches. They do great blues though.
I have a Seiko sumo and the green was deceivingly different from online pictures.

  • OOS

  • Have never been able to get the $25 discount at starbuy. I get the pop up, put in my email etc. They do send me the marketing stuff so it's obviously 'worked' but I never receive any discount code.

  • I have never understood the hype with coloured watches. All it does it limit the clothes you can wear them with.

    • Yeah I also prefer black, white, grey. navy etc but after you have a few to choose from it doesn't really matter.
If it was your only watch then I'd choose something safer as listed above.

It also doesn't need to be matchy-matchy all the time either.

      Fun. Variety. Choice. Bling.
I like adding a splash of colour to the often dull male fashion palette.

Anyone still after this, I just purchased for $274 including the $25 off.
