CommSec and Yahoo Email Accounts

If you have a CommSec account and use a Yahoo email address, the following experience of one of my family members may be relevant to you:

Since opening my CommSec trading account, I’ve always received electronic trade confirmations. But last November, without notice, I started getting paper confirmations—at a cost of $1.95 per trade.

When I called CommSec, they explained that Yahoo email issues had caused them to switch affected customers to paper confirmations. While the issue was resolved, they continued mailing confirmations (and charging for them) unless customers manually changed their settings back.

They never informed me of this. Only after I noticed, called to inquire and make a complaint, did they refund my charges from Oct 2024 to March 2025. When I asked about others in the same situation, they refused to comment.

If you trade with CommSec, make sure you aren't being wrongly charged for something you didn't ask for!
