WA Residential Battery Scheme – Are You Getting One?

WA Residential Battery Scheme – Are You Getting One?

The WA Government is launching the WA Residential Battery Scheme starting 1 July 2025, offering 20,000 rebates for residential battery installations.

  • Synergy customers: Up to $5,000 rebate ($500 per kWh, up to 10 kWh) for 19,000 customers
  • Horizon Power customers: Up to $7,500 rebate ($750 per kWh, up to 10 kWh) for 1,000 customers

More details: https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/energy-policy-wa/wa-resid…

💡 Are you planning to install a battery with this rebate? what size?

I also wonder if battery prices will increase as demand rises. What do you think?

Yes, probably look at 16kWh of Sigenergy with some solar.

Have been considering for about a year. Changed plans from Power Wall 3 due to the Muskrat, Sigenergy looks the closest for reasonable coin.

Sigenergy is the go, solarquotes rank them very highly as well

Why would you buy a tesla these days with the way its CEO and King behaves

      Boycott them to oblivion

I will be putting a new solar system with battery on my new build and there will be zero chance a tesla powerwall will be my battery choice (plus I have 3phase and sigenergy is the go for 3phase, powerwall three is useless for that)

      • how petty can you be

          rightio NPC

        • "'Elon Musk criticised after labelling Australian government 'fascists'"

As petty as Musk being told his platform spreads disinfo and misinfo like mold

      • +2

Right with you there. Musk has made hundreds of billions from the gullible.
You can be sure the Chinese owned Sigenergy will be better, non-stolen technology, better quality, longer lasting, and rapidly outpacing their failing coal powered electricity in China

    • I have 16kW Sig. Go 25kW if you can afford it.
I couldn't due to having a garage window above.. snookered by limited location in the backyard

  • Ship the batteries from interstate if prices and postage remain decent.

    • Purchasing from interstate is not eligible with the rebate (look at the first point below)

      Retailer and installer requirements

      • Retailers and installers must have a Western Australian address for their business.
      • Financial and integrity standards must be continuously met.
      • Previous pricing is to be published ahead of each round of rebates for full disclosure. Pricing disclosure arrangements are to be developed by the scheme administrator.
      • Retailers and installers will be required to demonstrate capacity to deliver in order to participate in the scheme and continue to demonstrate ability to meet technical and safety standards, including being subject to compliance audit testing.

Just another upper middle class welfare rort.

  • I also wonder if battery prices will increase as demand rises. What do you think?

Like Pink Batts? Labor just loves running these kinds of inflationary schemes. I wonder whose mate or brother or cousin or spouse is heavily invested in residential battery installation / supply companies?

I agree with you. Every time the government gives rebates, prices go up, and service declines. Just look at the history of new housing grant —they ended up crippling the industry, leading to numerous builder bankruptcies, poor quality houses and making it the worst time for customers to get their homes built.

    • Let's see if the third point below helps maintain stable pricing.

Price transparency won't stop the prices going up.
Consumer rebates will increase demand but will not impact supply so naturally the price will go up.
Retailers and installers will want to take a chunk of the rebate for themselves, even if it isn't the full amount.

        • I have the same feeling that retailers and installers will absorb around $2,000–$3,000 of the rebate for themselves. If that happens, there’s no real benefit to installing a battery.

          • +1

@Benzy: Why wouldn't other battery installers charge less then to get more business?

  • I think battery makers keep their ear to the ground for these kind of rebates and increase production ahead of time, you'd think so anyway.

      Fixed it for you

      • You're on ozbargain, your one job is to find a place that does it cheaper.

Installed 2xPW2 in December (NSW scheme) and couldn't be happier.
Latest estimate of payback period after various rebates and incentives is 6.5 years.

Added unexpected bonus is the blackout protection and no longer having to think about peak & off peak times for running appliances & AC.

  • Is there a nsw equivalent

    • Yes. Up to $5k off, depends on the size you get

      • Oh wow thanks never heard of it

How did you guys found out? And is it still active offer?

  • I intend on getting a BYD battery storage system.

I sent off several emails at the beginning of the week seeking quotes, but I'm yet to hear back from any of them. I’ve got a feeling they're being inundated with enquiries atm and I reckon the rebate will be exhausted in no time.
