Came to say this exact thing
interesting..
wouldnt expect good battery life thoAmazon would refund for a dead battery? Like poke some were ok. But for how long I guess… That price tho lol
Ayaneo pumps out new devices faster than dole bludgers pump out kids. No telling what issues they have.
This lol
he's out of line….. but he's right………..
Be very careful, Ayaneo's QA is atrocious. I bought their Pocket EVO during the Indiegogo campaign. All the early units had bad thermal. So I asked for a replacement. The replacement has good thermal, but a faulty battery. So I got another replacement - somehow ended up getting one with bad thermal again. Now I'm in the process of getting a refund. So much time and energy wasted. Will not touch another Ayaneo device again.
How to get those replacements, free shipping back ? and what were the timeframe.
Fedex pick up, organised and paid for by Ayaneo. However, they were reluctant to do any exchanges initially - I got their standard "we will ship you some free thermal grease for you to open up the unit and apply it yourself", which I promptly rejected and reminded them that they had sold me a defective unit.
Bought this second hand, not even worth $300 tbh, analog stick came off, battery level atrocious, played stealth game Shadow Tactics and on the way to work which took 45 mins, battery would drop below 40%.
The sleep and wake mechanics on this particular handheld is terrible, you have to press it multiple times for it to work, also the thumb print reader is ON the sleep button the size of a multivitamin pill making it hard to get your prints.
Get a used steam deck for an extra $100 or $200. Sold the ayaneo to cashies for $300. Best sale i ever made..
Yep im waiting for under 450$ steam second hand, just for fun
If you're lucky you might find a $500 LCD deck
On 2nd thought I have many handheld like switch vita nds n3ds rg3x oh well probably should stop…
Hmm thanks for this comment and the others in this thread. I'll save me money!
tldr; returning for refund - dead battery, speakers wrong, buggy software, heat effects the screen ruining contrast
I bought one of these after seeing this deal, it arrived yesterday (Saturday 22nd)
I thought it might be nice to have a smaller device than my ROG Ally for lighter titles, and I thought an OLED screen would be nice, and I thought it'd be fun to try Bazzite for something different too.I'll be returning for a refund, there are a few issues with this device.
First one is that the battery is DOA. It will power on when connected to power directly, but it seems to take a bit of effort to get it to power on - have to wait until the sticks are a certain colour, then hold the power button for a few seconds until it vibrates twice, then let go. Very irritating to get it to even power on. I did email Ayaneo to ask if they'll provide a replacement battery under warranty (I won't be following through with this). It does appear that a replacement battery is available to purchase ($30USD + shipping) in the event they refuse to just send a replacement battery.
Second, the audio is horrible on this device, absolutely horrendous. Turns out it's a known issue with them, and the speakers are wired out of phase. This can be fixed with software (about 5 minutes effort in total to download, install, configure, and test), but this particular solution I found would lock you into Windows OS, so that ruins the Bazzite idea.
The permanent fix is $70USD + shipping, for a speaker "upgrade" kit, which includes new speakers and all of the tools for the replacement.Third, the design of the unit means that the screen gets hot and starts to light up, even when it should be dark, this is especially noticable in the top left of the screen where heat sink for the CPU. Kinda ruins the magic of the OLED display if it lights up where it should be dark.
Fourth, the software experience is horrendous. I'm generally OK with working through the oddities of Windows on a handheld (being a day 1 Ally purchaser), but this was very, very bad. Windows version on the device as shipped is Windows 11 21H2, that appears to be stuck out of box trying to install the 2022-10 cumulative update. Got it onto 24H2, that wasn't too bad.
Ayaspace that's installed on the machine is a version 1.0, and it tries to update immediately to a newer version, then to 2.0 beta, and the 2.0 beta never installs, Doing it manually to get it to 2.5 is fine - but then the actual experience of using it is so poor. It opens on boot, but the task bar takes focus so you need to touch the screen to get it working again
When you open the overlay to adjust settings while in game, the control inputs continue to be passed into the game, which means it's difficult to actually make changes without interrupting what you're doing.
The software crashes often, and games regularly fail to launch.Overall, pretty disappointed, would recommend buying an ROG Ally or Steam Deck for not a lot more money for a much better experience overall, unless you're really sold on the form factor and OLED screen, and are willing to sink more money into replace the battery and speakers.
The Amazon reviews doesn't look promising; alot of dead batteries.
