Anytime Fitness Reuse Key Fob

hi all,

I was looking to sign up to anytime fitness again, after having a membership years ago. I've still got the key fob that I got when I signed up previously at one location. This time i'm looking to sign up to a different location, but they're telling me that I am unable to re-use the old tag, and that I'd have to buy another tag for $80, which seems ridiculous to me. If anyone could clarify whether this is correct or not, as from what I can see, you should be able to re-use the old tags. I'm not quite sure why the new branch wouldn't be able to use the old tag, as the tags grant you access to all locations anyway.

thanks in advance

You could search your local areas Facebook/gumtree and see if people want to “sell” their membership to you. I’ve done it a couple of times at gyms near me (not Anytime Fitness though)

They probably get their tags pre-programmed.

Also, they may not have the hardware and software required to re-activate/re-program an old tag (if they are NFC)?

  • they lying. say you want to use the digital fob and have no need for a physical one

    • yeah i did ask about that, but they said i'd have to buy the tag anyway to access the other locations. booooo

  • try referral instead, in many cases they waive joining fee (although I don't understand why you want to join them when there are heaps of options e.g. local council gyms that are cheaper, have no joining fee and often no lock-in).

    • I had an ask, and they said they'd be able to waive the joining fee for me, at both the new and old location. I could return to the original gym i signed up at, but at an extra $5 a week, it's definitely not worth it. I have considered a local council gym, but i'm a newbie and don't like working out when there's heaps of people around, so the 24/7 is a perk

      • My older council gym was 24x7 the newer one isn’t. Now I just go with fitness passport, maybe worth checking if employer offers it. For 2 people we save like $10 at the gym we otherwise went.

  • They said the same to me when I tried to re-join Anytime fitness with an old fob so I joined a different gym at half the cost. They act like they still have a monopoly on gyms. Just do the free trials on all your local gyms, you might find one with a good quiet time that is convenient for you.

If you are really set on Anytime fitness just add yourself to their SMS specials and they will eventually send you no joining fee, free month etc.

  • These fobs costs next to nothing and are easy to setup. The $80 is just like a bonus joining fee to them.

  • Joining/Fob fees are commission.

  • Try a different club location. I've found with another gym brand that certain clubs are way more accommodating than others. I've done the exact thing you're trying to do without hassle before.

  • Not Mazda, but our newest vehicle has wireless carplay and wired android auto plus built in factory nav. Have used the factory mav once when there was no cable for my phone. It wasnt a great experience. Using phone apps is 100% easier.

      Huh?
      .

      • Ha ha. Wronng thread.

  • They should be able to re program and old fob.

My Anytime fitness gym closed down and somehow I got wiped off the books (free gym for three months).

When I finally got locked out I rejoined at my new anytime. They weren't able to just reactivate my old account, just signed me up with the same conditions as my old contract and no lock in.

They also reprogrammed my old fob.

  • I emailed head office and this is what they said:

"Thanks for your email, unfortunately our FOB's are not reusable, when they haven't been used for a period of time, they are deactivated not able to be reused.

When you sign with AF, you will be required to purchase AF Digital Access or FOB key. "

When I asked the branch, they said I'd have to no choice but to pay for the FOB key even if I used a digital access key. Such a rort, ended up signing up for my local council gym + pool for less money.
