Looking for Sub 30K Car/SUV Which Is Exempt from FBT When Purchasing

I am looking for a sub 30K car / SUV which is exempt from FBT tax when purchasing.
Which one should I get GWM ORA or the MG ZS EV.. or if you know any other car please recommend.
Is the Cherry cars any good?
Do I have to purchase new? if not what will be the best preferably SUV shape car I can go for?

Personally … would be looking at other cars - exactly what, that is upto you!

GMW - first I have heard of that make.
In regards to MG … I am an MG owner …

not only lack of build quality (way too many things to mention) … but also alot of anger/aggression from others on the roads as to driving this car/make (never experienced such aggression in all my years of driving) … It seems … ppl see an MG - then go crazy (or even not see the car at all).

Only last week, was yelled at by a "tradie" in a ute with hi-vis … "get off the road" - while waiting to turn right, yet busy oncoming stream of cars in other direction.
Also - while I was already on a roundabout … another car (on left) came straight through roundabout and hit me on LH front (he was at fault).

Have had more near misses in 1 year of owning an MG … than I have had in my whole driving life (25+ years).

    • GWM - Great Wall Motors. Also make Haval.

    • Don't take it personally , that sounds like a normal day at 3064 , THE WILD WEST !

MG4 attracts a very low skill set driver.
Maybe that's why you're experiencing so much hate.

Should up your budget to 200k

I agree, and you’ve done too much research so far for $200k cars

  • MG4 is Australia’s favorite low cost electric vehicle by far, and with good reason. Great little cars, performant and handle well, more spacious than you would think.

    1. Look at the tax rules.
    2. There arent many EVs in tour budget. It wont be hard to go and test drive them and dexide which one is best for YOU.
    3. The Ora is not an SUV. It's a small hatchback, like the BYD Dolphin. Under $30k EV SUVs aren't in the market yet.

    4. If you dont need to buy now, there are more options cpming to Aus in the next year.

    • second hand MG ZS EV <2yrs from dealer would still quality for NL with FBT exemption

MG4 would be what youre after and yes, it has to be new according to the rule.

I think its changing soon for PHEV so you might be on a bit of a tight schedule

    • not for EVs. review date is 2027, and it doesn't have to be new.

    • Does not need to be new. I picked up a dealer demonstrator and saved $6k, along with the FBT exemption.
