amaysim Half Price Offer Renewal

About 2 years ago I bought an amaysim plan via Cashrewards. It worked out crazy cheap about $60 for a year. Last year I contacted them and they gave me $100 for one year. My plan expires on 18th May. I had a chat and the customer service representative said:

You still have the SIM plan promo for only $100 with your 12-months plan. That is, only if you will early-renew your SIM plan on the 16-17th of May 2025.

Simply send the SMS keyword RENEW to 568 on the 16-17th of May 2025 to do the-renewal.

I was planning to go to Boost to get 5g but at $100 one year of 180gb (I should have around 190-200gb data bank) it’s too hard to refuse. Also international calls.

Sure, if you're a happy with less coverage on the Optus network, then it's fine

I’m in Sydney and works reasonably well.

      • only until you need to go to an area where it doesn't.

Oh well I’ll be a bit without internet then. We have used Vodafone and Optus mvnos and have good experiences. Husband and one kid on Vodafone. One kid on Kogan and I’m on Amaysim. Even overseas we can still receive messages.

            Or without phone

Have had lots of issues with Amaysim/Optus when on holidays in the past…

            • @jv: That’s frustrating. I seriously never had an issue. Even with catch. Overall good experiences. Only downside for me no 5g

              • @fozzie: why do you need 5g on your phone?

                • @jv: Better coverage and faster speeds I suppose? Maybe a bit of an overkill in my case though

                  • @fozzie: What do you need the faster speeds for though? TikTok?

Unless you are downloading very large files, you won't notice any difference.

                    • @jv: Ahha no TikTok. Fair enough then. Thanks

  • Make sure to keep screenshots of your chat/txt etc
Last year I was offered a deal on a different plan
    - ended up with a fair bit of messaging back and forth to get the $50 discount i was promised.
    Left a sour taste

    • That sucks. Yes I have done that, thanks.

To cut a long story short using a similar legacy plan, a cheap SIM price matched at Officeworks, and one SIM for voice, one for Data, I ended up with 170GB for 12 months for $82, as well as two numbers with unlimited calls/SMS. Yep it's Amaysim and yep the coverage isn't as great as Boost was, but, $82!

    • Cheap as chips

  • Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread but I found something I'm wondering if the people of OzBargain think I should post?

I was after the cheapest possible plan for my kids mobile, they need a tiny amount of data for occasional use. Later on they'll need a lot more data, but this is just a 'shared' mobile they can take with them to call us when they need picking up. A small amount of data is required to keep location services reporting back and to use apps like WhatsApp (if we wanted to). One of my sons runs a card game on it he uses at tournaments, this needs a tiny amount of mobile too.

Anyway after a ton of searching there are 365 day options that are reasonable value but really only if picking up a special. I know this'll upset a lot of people here but I don't like these one-off specials, first 3-months, first 6-month, etc… it creates more work for me later. I also worry an accident chews up the annual data limit.

Which is a lot of words to explain why I popped them on Amaysim $22/28 days but this is actually quite expensive for kids their age. However ONCE you're connected to Amaysim you can go to change plan and select a hidden $30/90 day, 4GB with data banking, unlimited talk/text option!

That's very roughly $10/pm, which is as low as it goes I think. It's just not advertised anywhere I can see? I thought it might be worth making a post about but wanted to ask the brains trust first.

Wow that is a good trick for very low users! I don’t think I have seen a post about it before. I think that would be useful for some

OK then! I will :-) Thanks! I have a new phone and a $2 SIM I need to activate for my son, so I'll try it out IRL and note the process to get on the plan, then I'll make a post :-)
