  • Does this help with Seborrheic dermatitis?

    • Depending on the severity of your condition, the Dermaveen Oatmeal Shampoo could be used alone if fairly mild symptoms.
Otherwise, for more severe symptoms the shampoo could be used in conjunction with other therapies (ie) steroid cream or lotions.
If the symptoms are occurring on the body, rather than scalp, then the soap free wash would be suitable.

I know I'm late, but I come bearing info.

I've had seborrheic dermatitis on my face since my early 20s (I'm in my 30s now lol), and the only thing that has ever worked for me is MCT (Medium Chain Triglyceride) oil, applied topically a few times a week.

If you're interested, the r/sebderm subreddit has a lot of valuable info, but the important parts are:

      • Seborrheic dermatitis is believed to be caused by a type of yeast (Malassezia) that is found on everyone's skin and is harmless, except for some people it causes an immune response leading to the condition. It's NOT contagious.
      • MCT oil (specifically C8 & C10, my next point) starves the yeast of food, giving the immune system a chance to calm down, and giving the skin a chance to heal. It's not a cure though, and the MCT oil needs to be applied regularly to keep the yeast down. It needs to be thought of as a part of your regular skincare routine.
      • MCT oil comes in different chain "lengths", which is important to know. C8 is ideal, but the most expensive and difficult to get in Australia. C8/C10 is going to be your best choice, as it's easy to obtain, and inexpensive (the Coco Earth brand I've had good results with, and is available from Amazon for example). C6 isn't common, and does nothing AFAIK. Avoid C12 and above COMPLETELY. It will do the opposite and actively feed the yeast, making your skin worse.

      I hope that helps.

Wow that is amazing information and extremely thankful for what you provided.

  • Dermeeze is cheaper at woolies atm. Like $10.xx.

I find dermaveen a bit watery so I use more unlike aveeno. Not sure how the dermaveen compares though

    • That's for 500ml this is 1L

      • 1l is $10.50 at woolies.

        • Maybe you’re seeing something I’m not seeing.

    • Not sure how the dermaveen compares though

Dermeze is a cheaper formula, I wouldn't recommend it. It appears to mimic Dermaveen while cutting corners.

It uses 'oatmeal seed extract' not Colloidal oatmeal, not clear if they are equivalent but they may not be. That is what provides the anti-inflammatory effect.

Dermeze uses cheaper surfactants (soaps), and it includes Titanium Dioxide for whitening- odd choice for a sensitive skin product.

The Dermaveen also includes vitamin E (Tocopherol) in the formula

        • Thanks. Valuable post!

Dermeze is a cheaper formula, I wouldn't recommend it.

you wouldn’t recommend it just because it’s cheaper?

          Dermeze uses cheaper surfactants (soaps)

which is why it’s cheaper in price?

unless one has very sensitive skin, Dermeze’s are still good and significantly less irritating than more common ones, though not quite as much as those in Extra Gentle - note that both contain cocamidopropyl betaine

i use and recommend both, but buy DermaVeen more because it's usually cheaper

          • @tonester: Why would you recommend both when they aren't equivalent?

Are you confused by my comments? Is 'cutting corners' not clear that I am stating it is inferior? Are the reasons I gave why Dermeze is inferior not clear? Do you disagree?

You haven't addressed anything I brought up

            • @greatlamp:

Why would you recommend both when they aren't equivalent?

just because two items aren't equivalent, doesn't mean that they can't be both recommended e.g. ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard Case 360 vs Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case

Is 'cutting corners' not clear that I am stating it is inferior? Are the reasons I gave why Dermeze is inferior not clear?

the only reason that you've given is that it's cheaper - you didn't explain why that makes it inferior

You haven't addressed anything I brought up

unless one has very sensitive skin, Dermeze’s are still good and significantly less irritating than more common ones, though not quite as much as those in Extra Gentle - note that both contain cocamidopropyl betaine

              • @tonester: Dermeze doesn't have vitamin e, doesn't contain Colloidal oatmeal, adds irritant minerals for no purpose other than colour. All information I provided in my post.

                • @greatlamp:

                  Dermeze doesn't have vitamin e

possibly a reason for it being cheaper - note that more ingredients isn't necessarily better

                  doesn't contain Colloidal oatmeal

Avena sativa Kernel Extract is equivalent to Avena Sativa Kernel Flour

adds irritant minerals for no purpose other than colour

titanium dioxide is not an irritant

                  • @tonester: You should buy body soap from the reject shop. I know it isn't suitable for the context we are discussing- soaps for sensitive skin, but for the purposes of an internet argument it's cheaper, and that is the most important thing.

                    • @greatlamp: which one?

note that being more expensive isn't necessarily better

                      • @tonester: For you it does. Let's keep changing the context so everything you say is correct.

Is Avena sativa Kernel Extract is equivalent to Avena Sativa Kernel Flour? Doesn't matter

Is vitamin E beneficial for sensitive skin? Doesn't matter

Is Titanium Dioxide irritating? Doesn't matter

                        • @greatlamp:

                          For you it does.

where have i indicated or implied that being more expensive is necessarily better?

                          • @tonester: You haven't indicated anything. You just keep sharing vauge statements that make no sense in the context being discussed.

just because two items aren't equivalent, doesn't mean that they can't be both recommended
                            .

unless one has very sensitive skin,
                            .

note that more ingredients isn't necessarily better
                            .

This is another regional locked/post code deal. Though its a good deal it should be on "Parts of Oz Bargain". Last time I negged a deal like this, wont this time as OzB community revoked :(

  • I use Dermaveen Extra Gentle on my child, who previously had mild eczema on his legs. After a few weeks of use, it’s completely gone. Good stuff

Previously, I used QV Gentle Wash, which neither improved nor worsened his eczema.

  • The best deal I have found for this was a Costco warehouse special - 2x1L for $24 so just beats this deal.
It's now sitting at $35 but worth keeping an eye out
