"Charcoal Grey flame-retardant fabric finish adds a touch of elegance and safety to any space."

fabric on a heater is certainly an interesting choice

Do we need to make sure our home and contents insurance is up to date before ordering one of these? >_<

For a single room this is better than switching on the ducted system definitely?

    • Ducted as a minimum energy consumption so depends.

      • but big initial costs

        • "switching on the ducted system"

Sounds like dealt already has the ducted.

If the ducted is gas then I'd say probably. If it's an inverter/heat pump then I'm not sure.

    • +1

you would be surprised. Ducted R/C is about 6x more efficient.

      • I have the one from Actron Air with large unit outside 14.68kw cooling and 15kw heating.

With that one I can either run whole floor like upstairs or downstairs so no control on room to run for etc… which is why I was thinking a column heater like this for eg

        • My house is split up that way as well with 2 independently controlled zones. The cost would be comparable, i.e. 120m2 floor area with R/C versus 20m2 just heating the master bedroom with an oil column heater. Personally I prefer sleeping with the oil column heater on as the operation is completely silent.

          • +1

@bruceclipse: Per hour run cost of this oil column is 1/5th my ducted so definitely better if doing a room, also as you can set this to thermostat mode to turn on and off at a temperature.

            • +1

@dealt: If your ducted is 15kw heating capacity it does not consume 15, it consumes 3-4. And that's only when it's running at max capacity

              • @Keplaffintech: Thx mate but does that mean max capacity is when ambient or outside temperature and in home temperature difference is the highest? Like say it's 3 degrees outside and you want 20 degrees inside? Or just that when I run it for both levels together it will consume that max rated power?

              • @Keplaffintech: so what does the 15kw heating capacity mean then ? If it only consumes 3-4kw at max load.

                • +1

@51ngh: Heat pumps are more than 100% efficient because they are just moving heat around and not generating heat. So a 15kW heat pump system is basically equivalent to a 15kW panel heater but only uses 4kW. This efficiency drops as temperature drops but would stay very efficient anywhere in Australia.

                  • @Team America: Thanks for clarifying. My powerpal shows around those figures on my 16kw heating unit. At 12am to 6am, I drop to 0.08c so cheap overnight. But pricey for the other 18 hours. Still cheaper than the gas ducted unit it replaced.

    • +1

Just get yourself a PS5 in your room or something

    • +1

For a single room this is better than switching on the ducted system definitely?

Potentially or look for an electric blanket to keep it easy on your pocket.

Ducted generally makes the atmosphere dry but the Oil ones don't so that's also another consideration.

      • Ducted generally makes the atmosphere dry but the Oil ones don't

Please explain how you think ducted AC in heat mode dries the air.

  • Is panel heater energy efficient or oil column

    • Summary from Chat GPT:

If you need quick heating and will only be using the heater for short periods, a panel heater may be the better choice.
If you're looking for long-term, cost-efficient heating for a larger space, an oil column heater might be the better option.

      • From a pure physics standpoint, both consume the same power for the same heat output. The main advantage of an oil heater is comfort and steady warmth. All heaters are 100% efficient.

        • From physics viewpoint, the mechanisms of heating in oil heater and panel heater are different. That affects efficiency

          • @mkowarkski: No they are both heating elements and efficiency is 100% for them. Be it fan heater or oil heater.
The way the heat is distributed varies but not the efficiency. Oil in the oil column heater acts as heatsink and stores heat for steady release others such as panel heater quickly release the heat to the surroundings.

so which is these three is the best deal?

  • -6

bit early for this isn't it? its still like 30 degrees in Queensland and humid won't ever look at a heater till about July when it starts to drop.

    • +7

If you wait until you need it you’ll pay more.

    • +3

QLD people need to be banned from buying heaters.

Look at Melbourne 38 on Sat, Full day piss on Sunday and 19 on Mon.. Quite timely for Melbourne folks

      • -7

lol we laugh at the cry babies when they say its 38 degrees… and "too hot" o boo hoo try experiencing that in Queensland then you will know what real heat feels like.

        • +1

Who said I am not from QLD?

        • Qld has humidity. Victoria has dry heat. Having lived in both states I can't say I prefer one over the other. But I'd pick a Qld Winter any day.

        • I've lived in Queensland all my life and 38 is awful, feels like your mind is turned to mush. Over 40 becomes essentially unable to function unless you have aircon.

  • Goldair GOC117TH control panel is so old looking.

no way anyone is paying RRP $150 for something like this…

  • They say silent, but you are still going to be able to hear the relay in the thermostat clicking on and off.

  • The issue with oil panel is they stop working after leaving unused for a while. Not sure if this is common issue.

    • How long is a while? I bought a cheap kmart one 5 years ago, it gets put in the cupboard at the end of winter and has worked each time I've pulled it back out after summer.

      • yeah - my 11 column is coming on close to 15 years

  • are these expensive to run? i had the heater fan from kmart and my electricity bill was out of this world.

    • Yes it would be similar. Use a reverse cycle air conditioner if you have one.
