Watch for my 10yr old
Fair trade. Where shall we meet?
I think I’d be happier with keeping the f91w
Can they read time?
Do they need a learning watch?
Has their school banned smartwatches?
Are you happy if it breaks or gets nicked?
Thanks for the warning
An old used Apple Watch would be good if they use an iPhone. My health has improved a lot since I finally started trying to close the activity rings each day, resting and walking heart rate is a lot lower.
iPhone for a 10 year old?
For analogue watch get the Time Teacher Watch.
For digital watch get the GShock as they are indestructible.
10 year olds love iPhones.
Just because a child loves something doesn't mean you should automatically give it to them. Sheesh
Proper parenting 101.
get the GShock as they are indestructible.
Which is great until they lose it somewhere or have it stolen. (shouldn't happen but might)
Having said that, we got our daughter a Baby-G (the feminine-slanted G-Shock).
What? Being indestructible is still great even if you lose it. How does that… nope, walking away
@zwolf: You are right - indestructible is still good.
The argument was that the G-Shocks are a good option as even though expensive their build quality should stand up against a child's treatment.
My point is it's all well and good that the kid can't break their watch, but that doesn't stop them from losing it or having it stolen, in which case you're out of pocket just as much as if they broke it (assuming you replace it…).
Flik flak watch
This is the one, great designs and free replacement batteries.
Came here to say this
Baby G is a pretty easy recommend. Lots of different colours, pretty bulletproof, horological credibility.
I wanted a G-Shock when I was 12 and my parents got a baby g as they thought a G-Shock was too big on my wrist. I personally like the masculine look. I longed for the shock for years and wear one almost daily now. Baby g was definitely a great watch but maybe see what the kid wants too. The basic ones are fine and go on amazon for ~60 from time to time. Definitely not the new ultra fancy ones!
Get an analogue one so they can learn how to read it.
Don’t most 10year olds already know how to read an analogue clock?
Not instinctively.
Probably not instinctively but generally they get taught this by their parents and school before then.
@morse: Yes, they get taught around the age of 7-8, but because of the massive prevalence of digital clocks they tend to avoid analogue.
I'm not interested in a 10 year old. What else do you have to trade?
What is the minimum age you'd accept?
Casio F-91. Cheap enough to not care when it's lost. But still cool. It's where it begins.
And, if it's not lost it in a year, then a G-Shock/Baby G of their choosing.
Casio duro
44mm watch on a 10yo. Nice
My bad, but maybe this https://www.casio.com/intl/watches/casio/product.MDV-10-1A2V… would be a better fit at 38mm.
Wasn't knocking your recommendation. I think it would actually be pretty funny to see
Swatch has some nice designs at around your budget.
I've heard good things about the Garmin Vivofit Jr for younger kids; adds in a fitness/activity tracker as well - but is not a 'smart watch' that you need to regularly charge or worry about security/updates/gps tracking/sim card etc.
I gave that to my 7yo, and he loves it. He challenges himself to hit the 10k step goal every day (it's fairly easy for this age).
My child's school being a government primary school banned the use of smart watches. My child still wanted to track her steps and so we went with a Casio LWS2200H. Available in black, pink or cappuccino. It can be connected to a smart phone for daily uploads of pedometer but apparently the app and connectivity is somewhat shaky.
Doesn't matter though as they just want to know what they are doing on a daily basis and not record it and love that it has usual Casio watch functions (stopwatch, calendar, etc), 1+ year battery life and is fairly ruggedized.
If you can stretch the budget then go for a tag heuer monaco.
150 for a watch for a preteen? You trying to smash that money into bits? Adjust that budget to 15 and hit up K-Mart.
Way to tell people you're poor without actually saying it.
For my 10 year old nephew i got him a galaxy watch 6 40mm for $200 from marketplace and with a bit of messing around and using guides from here and reddit added a woolworths 1 year esim to it ($150) so he can make calls on it.
A bit out of the budget but if you can find a cheap galaxy it works well. Will need a recent ish andriod to control it, but can make a second profile on a phone to use as its controls.
I got my 11 year old a Xiaomi Smart Band 9 primarily for the alarm functionality for music lessons at school, etc. It requires a smartphone to setup and configure initially but otherwise operates independently. Does fitness tracking, alarms, notifications if they have a phone, fun fun backgrounds and watch faces. Doesn't do GPS or calling (nothing does at this price point) but it's been pretty good for him so far and it's been cheap enough that when he lost the first one I didn't mind spending another $70 for a replacement.
Hi OP,
If its a boy, a sound choice are G-Shocks. They look pretty cool and rugged and the aesthetics appeal to that age bracket. My 10 year old is quite happy with his:-
Royal Oak , but look after it on behalf of your kid until he is old enough to wear it (30th birthday)
Oh wow I didn't even know you could get them for $150. Might get a few more

Have you considered a 200k luxury SUV instead?
CASIO Men's G-Shock Duo Slim Analog-Digital Watch, Black Face, Black Band
Keep it simple.
T49713 Timex Camper Men's Expedition Watch. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" is the Timex moto, meaning that they can handle rough treatment and keep on going.
I choose this one for the following kid-friendly features:
Heavy Duty construction (I've got a weekender that I've used as my beater work watch and it's lasted 6 years and still looks good)
100M water resistant
The easy-to-read analogue face is perfect for learning to tell time
Fast to don/doff velcro strap
Indiglo can be used to tell time at night and is bright enough to use as a light in the dark (if you have to)
Spacetalk watch. Either the Adventurer 2 or the loop. Son (10) has had the original Adventurer 1 watch for the last 4 years and daughter has had her Adventurer 2 for almost 2 years now. If my son's original Adventurer watch were to break, I'd get him a new Adventurer 2 watch. Very durable, 1-2 days Battery life. No social media, good call reception and tracking capabilities and good low cost monthly phone plan. Bunch of the kids in both age groups have friends with the watches. It can be a bit tricky to get the watch set up initially as for whatever reason the process has gotten more complicated, but the company is always releasing new software updates. Was able to still buy a new watch band for the Adventurer 1 just a few weeks ago as the original one finally started cracking. Gives the kids significantly more freedom as we're sending them over to friends houses quite far away on their own, knowing we can contact them at any time
Classic functional watch.
