Trying to Find an Affordable Long Single Bed Frame

I have been given a new long single mattress for free and I am trying to find affordable bed frames for it. It seems the only long single frames are adjustable for orthopaedic purposes and are expensive.

I was thinking maybe I could get away with getting a frame with a low lip at the foot of the frame and let it hang over a bit. Long singles are the same width but 15cm longer. Something like this:.

My budget is up to $200. Thoughts?

How good is the long single mattress that you want to plan your whole bed around it? Might be a good reason that it is free…

You definitely don't want to be stuck with a custom sized bed frame just to save a hundred on mattress.

Uncommon mattress size, so start googling.
    Eg

    • Heh, good find but $174 for cardboard is a hard sell.

In my opinion the most important thing to look for is the distance between the slats.

"For optimal comfort and mattress support, bed frame slats should be 5 to 8 cm apart.
    Recommended spacing by mattress type:

Memory foam & latex: 5 to 8 cm (wider gaps can cause sagging).
Innerspring & hybrid: 8 to 13 cm (since these mattresses have built-in support).

If the slats are too far apart, consider adding more slats or using a bunkie board for better support."

If you're going to copy/paste AI, at least apply a little bit of common sense first. 13cm gap in slats is insanely wide, that'd only be 9-10 slats on a queen size bed.

    make one yourself?

I doubt OP has time or skills to do that. They are so time/skill poor they are outsourcing their web searching to an ozbargain forum thread.

  • Is the mattress a king single? If it is then search for king single mattress base and check the prices.

    • long single is less width than king single

      • Yep thought about that, but it's for my kid. Could be a problem?

    • Long single is narrower than king single by 15cm, but would it really be a problem putting a long single mattress on a king single frame?

Just put it on the floor. Too easy.

    • Too much dust on a carpeted floor. Have to be Japanese level of clean to sleep on the floor.

A bit more than you want to pay but something like this might work.

Thanks for the suggestions, but we have decided to offload the mattress and get a standard single mattress and bed.

And so the cosmic dance of the long single mattress continues.

    • King single beds. King single is wider than long single.

    • Good find. Thanks.

  • A very quick google search - this one is 197cm long and has no end rail so the mattress can hang over a bit - https://www.fantasticfurniture.com.au/Categories/Bedroom-&-M…

    • Cheap, but the reviews aren't great. Have given the mattress to my uncle anyway. It will sit on top of a ensemble base and hang over a bit.
