Avoid AliExpress CP U Store

CP U store is painful. Avoid!

Purchased a CPU from them 6 months ago via one of the deals here and it recently died. Trying to deal with cp u store via chat is like pulling teeth.

Over the last week they have asked me what motherboard 3 times, have I updated the bios 3 times, and to see a video of the problem twice. Mind you I get maybe 2 responses a day. Have even used google translate to tell them the CPU is dead, as confirmed by a computer shop local to me, and that AMD said the CPU is OEM so the warranty lies with cp u store. Also that 'yes i have updated bios, xx is my mobo, CPU is dead, please initiate refund process'… Bet they ask me mobo and bios again…

I imagine they would actually have a bad store rating if you could leave reviews after 30 days.

Aliexpress support is no better as you can't actually talk to a real person.

My fault for buying electrical from aliexpress instead of local just to save some $$

Who knew buying a CPU from AliExpress would be a bad experience…

Well given how well the deals go here and the high store rating, which I now know only exists due to their crap review system, I didnt forsee a problem. Silly me.

AliExpress, known for cheap/counterfeit/low quality crap, and bad after sales experiences.

CPU, known for being complex and fragile.

Seems like this combo doesn't go well together.

I wouldn’t call CPUs fragile. They’re actually one of the most reliable components. It’s quite rare to get a dead or defective one.
Unless you mean physically fragile but the most modern sockets have the pins on the motherboard.

          • @FireRunner: Rare for not DOA or in standard configs, however Many a CPU has met its demise in an overclocked rig or custom system with poor airflow/failed fan. They are very reliable if not DOA and operated within normal conditions though.

            • @gromit: Mine was non overclocked with a nice big heatsink. First cpu I have had die its just my bad luck it was from a seller that is next to impossible to deal with re warranty..

              • @Ravensbane: Did you actually try a new mobo? Or did the PC store just take your computer and check that and say "dead"?

          • @FireRunner: I suppose I just meant that it's not the usual cheap trinket people buy off AliExpress. Could have been mishandled, could have been used, could have been a reject chip etc.

Everyone knows not to buy from AliExpress if you're expecting a warranty and a pleasant after sales experience. So I thought.

    • But some folks want to save some $$$ and still expect local shop like warranty service at the same time from a company not operating within our soil.

CPUs are usually incredibly reliable, but at the price it was always going to be a gamble. You win some, you lose some.

    • +4

"Chances are you're about to lose"
"Imagine what you could be buying instead"
"You win some. You lose more"
      "What's gambling really costing you?"
"Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?"
"What are you prepared to lose? Set a deposit limit"
"What are you really gambling with?"

treat savings of aliexpress deals like cashbacks, overall you'll be better off but dont expect everything to be as smooth as buying local

dealing with warranties is a hassle so i rather take the risk for the discount but we all have our own personal preferences

keep an eye on savings and sum that with any losses to get an idea if it's worth it for you in the long run

I like aliexpress and have bought many things from them. Would I buy a CPU from them? Not a chance.

CPUs don't die. If your CPU worked out of the box it's still fine.

CPUs are built to insane tolerances, well beyond your motherboard and all of your other components. Literally every other part of your computer will die before your CPU does.

What you have been told is correct, the problem is not with your CPU. Get a new motherboard.

The only possible reason a CPU might be dead 6 months in is if you've done something silly like damaging one of the pins mashing it in and out of your motherboard.

Lots of people around here have had great experiences buying CPUs from Ali, including me. If you ever have a bad experience with an Ali CPU you'll know it immediately, not six months later.

Don't come back here until you've dropped the CPU into a new motherboard with a fully updated BIOS.

It's not Ali or the Ali store's job to give you helpdesk support. When you buy a stand alone CPU you're asserting that you have the skills and competence to build, manage and error-check a full PC from the ground up.

CPU's do die. It is very very very rare. So rare that you and your friends should never have one fail.

I agree with your post's sentiment that the hugely vast 99.99% of CPU "death/not working" issues are the M/B related if the CPU/MB worked when first installed.

You should consider all purchases from overseas (anywhere) as money gone, no after sales service :/

Let this be a cheapish learning experience ;)

Although, I have bought several CPU/Mobo/RAM combos and stand-alone GPUs from Aliexpress and haven't been burnt yet, but I fully expect it at some point!

    • To be fair to CP U, they've actually engaged with OP and are working through testing a part that rarely ever dies. It could be worse.

I'll keep buying from them though, because it's cheaper than buying second hand in Australia (where I also expect zero warranty). I haven't been game to go a GPU yet though, haven't seen cheap enough prices to warrant it. Those cheap ITX motherboards keep staring at me though, so very tempting!

Yeah, only buying 5700XT and 6700XT when they get sub $200 …

Have bought a lot of 5700X3D + Mobo + 32GB 3200Mhz CL16 RAM for less than $AU400 that have all worked surprisingly!

  • Yeah everything off aliexpress imho is expected to not come with a warranty or after sales support.

  • What CPU?

    • Central Processing Unit

  • The CPU I got from AliExpress has been 100% reliable.

I'm talking about the replacement one. The first one they sent me was a fake.
