Optus and Cashrewards - Optus Postpaid Mobile

I recently had a $40 cashback for a Optus Postpaid Mobile purchase declined.

The reason given was that: Optus Postpaid Mobile has determined your purchase did not originate from the last click through Cashrewards. Instead, another marketing channel was credited with the commission. As a result, the store has marked your cashback as declined.

I find this frustrating as I always make sure to use the Cashrewards app for these large cashbacks to avoid issues with “other marketing channels”. However maybe this is not an adequate level of protection.

The worrying thing is that I have a pending $100 cashback for a 356 prepaid sim from Optus still pending. It will be a real kick in the guts if I don’t get that one as well.

How do I protect against this in the future?

  • I always use the phone app for cashbacks (Cashreward, Shopback, etc.) If you use the app's built-in browser to navigate stores and make purchases, your screen will show a banner of the cashback website. Just take a screenshot of the order confirmation page showing that banner when you're done with the purchase.

  • ill tell you in 7 days about what happens with my cashback

I suspect that Optus has claimed their own discount as the other marketing channel in an effort to void the $40 cashback.

Feels like a real dog act.

  • Whilst annoying it is a risk with CB deals (vs straight discount)- so my advice is to make sure you're still ok with whatever deal you're going for in the event you don't get CB approved.
