LA Ice Cola & LA Ice Cola No Sugar 2L $1.75 Each @ Coles

210

Cheap 2L cola, and cola no sugar

Works out to be 88 Cents a litre.

This is as cheap as it gets after COVID IMO.

Enjoy your cheap cola. Personally really prefer 2L bottles than 1.25L ones also.

Its my go to, also the coles / woolies brand and diet rite is good. Lots of flavors and i find it more fizzy and stays fizzy longer in fridge

Not paying $4.50 for 1.25L of coke or pepsi

    • Woolies zero sugar cola tastes great, approx $1 per liter. Diet Rite passionfruit is also S Tier!

Coles lemonade is good too. 2 Litres for $1.50 and also comes in sugar free.
Orange mango diet rite is my favourite

LA ice ftw… Love this stuff, awesome with malt whisky

The zero sugar has sweetener 952 which is banned in the US and many European countries, yet somehow it passes Australian standards.

      • I think it's because the study that found 952 Cyclamate increased the incidence of bladder cancer in rats was based on the equivalent of ingesting 550 cans of diet soda/soft drink per day.
(My source was Wikipedia, check there for actual sources.)
FSANZ allows it with a maximum daily intake. To me that means avoid it if you can, a little bit occasionally is okay if you're relatively well and meeting other nutritional requirements. To each their own.

Thanks for your comment, I learned something useful :)

      • Woolies Cola Zero Sugar also has sweetener 952

  • Personally really prefer 2L bottles than 1.25L ones also

    Please explain?

I sometimes use these plastic bottles to store water (after drinking the cola from it ofc and rinsing it out)

And 2L holds more water than 1.25L bottles simple.

Most glass and other plastic bottles you find online/instore are usually all up to like 1.5L. These soft drink bottles are good and cheap IMO, and easily replaceable also.

      • I will revisit this soft drink thank you!
I agree with you in all respects, though I do prefer sucralose as my artificial sweetener of choice.
I just find 2 litre bottles loose fizz at the bottom end of the soft drink.
The shape and strength of the plastic bottle also are considerations.
Happy to hear about other peoples experience.

This will go well with my Macallan

I remember getting a 600ml bottle of LA Ice or Ceda Creaming Soda after school for a $1 from the local fish and chip shop.

  • Normally 2 bucks, fwiw.

who owns LA ICE? PM said not to buy US soft drinks.. :)

    • +1

It was sold to Refresco in 2022 and they're Dutch.

      • +4

Refresco is owned by KKR, who are American.

Buy Wimmers if you want to boycott American companies.

        • Too bad Wimmers isn't stocked nationally.

      • "In 2022, KKR acquired a majority stake in Refresco fueling the next phase of growth of the company." (https://www.refresco.com/en/about-us/our-history/). KKR is American. So they're a global company, based in NL, which is majority American owned.

Not homebrand. It's just not a big American brand (despite the product name).

    • Ohh what lol I was wrong seems like.

It was always the cheapest and Coles didn't have like Coles branded cola so I thought this was their homebrand equivalent.

      • +1

Que cola is the homebrand coles cola

I'm still going through my 20 pepsi max 2 liters I got from amazon resale, they taste like crap but I persevere

  • Now all I need for the weekend is super cheap whisky to go with it

I've been here since back when it was called Maxi Ice and let me tell you something, they are single handedly holding this economy up on their shoulders at a dollar per litre full RRP.

    You dropped this, king.
    🜲

    • The no sugar variant was called Maxi Ice until like last year lol. In fact the change happened so recently not all stores have even updated it yet on their site.

I do believe they were first to introduce a "Coffee Cola" flavour though

      • I'll be in my cold, cold grave before I recognize "LA Ice No Sugar"

        • This and Coke Zero vs Coke No Sugar.

Also I haven't tried this new sugarless LA Ice but apparently from the below comment it's different :/

    • Maxi Ice is not the same as the No Sugar variant.
Maxi Ice is superior flavour and my go to.
No Sugar is crap and I’d drink normal LA Ice before No Sugar.

      • Very interesting.

NQR up the road still sells the old blue one. I might have to pay their 2.10 a bottle and compare the pair.

I miss the big 500ml blue tinnies they used to do, that was peak.

      • Totally agree with this.
You can get Maxi Ice at some (not all) IGA stores and some independent grocers.

      • I finally picked up a couple from NQR a few hours back. Waited to get proper cold for a fair shake.

You are 100% (profanity) right, this is so much better. Spent all this time thinking I missed the 500ml cans, just missed real Maxi Ice. This is aces. So much more caramel-y, way sweeter.

Thank you random OzBargain man for your wisdom!

  • Great deal to pair with my Yamazaki 50 Year Old Single Malt

Who remembers AC Cola? 50c a can from Kmart. Those were the days.

    • It was disappointing to learn AC was American.

      • +1

Really? I thought it was "Australia's Choice".

    • Remember their lemon flavour was alright.

    • +1

I think about those vending machines too often tbh, best thing about Costco is refillable Pepsi for a buck

      • Bring a 2L bottle so you don't have to hang about.

  • Already sold out at Coles Mount Druitt /s

    • Coles has the Rain checks btw (So you can just get another 5 next week when they got stock at the same current price if they are OOS now UPTO 30 days from getting the RainCheck Card)

I love shopping at Coles for a reason too
